Power on, Internet light flashing slowly

Hi,

I've had my Sure Signal for a few months - worked fine to start with but now power light is on and Internet light is flashing. I've phone Tech Support a few times but I don't get mobile signal at home (hence the need for VSS!) and I've got fed up of the strange looks I get standing outside my house in the rain trying to get this sorted, only for the call to drop before I get anywhere.

So Sky Broadband router. Worked fine, then cut in and out a few times before completely failing. I've done all the troubleshooting and done a hard reset. Resync done at your end already. Below is the information you're hopefully about to ask for:

Download speed: 7.15Mbps

Upload speed: 0.84Mbps

Ping: 45ms

IP: 94.12.213.105

IPv6: ::ffff:5e0c:d569 (if required)

Serial no: 40131552230

Traceroute results:

Hi, I hope you don't mind me jumping into this conversation by replying to this message but I have got the same problem - power light is on but internet is flashing slowly.  It has not been working properly since yesterday.  We do seem to get this problem from time to time where it works for days or even weeks and then drops out for no apparent reason.  Usually switching off and on at the plug socket makes it work again but not this time.  So frustrating, we've paid £100 for the device and it doesn't work reliably but without it the signal is non-existent.

Tech support, please can you help?  I've looked at what you're likely to ask me so I've run the tests and the results are below.

Speed test results:

Ping 27 m/s

Download speed 6.95 Mbps

Upload speed 0.38 Mbps

Ping test:

Unable to test packet loss

Ping 35ms

Sure signal serial number is 40132617719.  The green light under the cable is on solid, the orange light is flickering.

Any advice would be appreciated.  Many thanks.

Kind regards

Nicola

Hi Zippy_finch,

Everything there looks fine, although the upload speed is a little low. If you have too much running on your connection or too many lines using the Sure Signal at once it could cause it to time out.

I've resynched the Sure Signal, so can you give it a reset for me?

For Sure Signal version 1 or 2:

  • Hold down the reset button until all the lights show (about 30 seconds)
  • Keeping the reset button held down, remove then re-insert the power lead.
  • Once all lights display release the reset button.
  • The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.

For Sure Signal version 3:

  • Locate the button on the base of the box next to the Ethernet ports.
  • Press and hold the button for approximately 30 seconds.
  • Once the lights come back on, release the button.
  • The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.

Hi Motomot,

This shows the Sure Signal is configuring which can take 6 hours.

I can see Ben did a resync for you yesterday, can you let us know if this has fixed the issue?

Thanks,

Kay

seems to have fixed it intermittently but keeps crashing regularly and then comes back on again. I can use it in between the crashes

Hi Motomot,

As the upload speeds you posted here are right on the cusp of the minimum required for Sure Signal you may see intermittent service. If your internet speeds have decreased recently, I'd speak to your ISP to see what they can do to improve your speeds for you.

Cheers, Ben

I have a BT home hub, so might a better modem help?
