R205 - signal goes from 3G+ to no network within minutes

Hi Guys,

I'm having trouble with my R205 PAYG mifi.  I can have a really strong 3G+ signal but it will suddenly drop out and the device will say No Network for hours - I've tried a 'manual reboot' (switching it off and on), I've tried removing the sim card and putting that back in, I've tried moving the unit around the room, but nothing.

I put the sim card into my old dongle and it flashes blue so I know there is signal

Does anyone have an idea as to why it's not working?  Is very frustrating as I work away a lot and spend half the day without an internet connection.  There isn't a vodaphone shop near me, so I was hoping I would find a solution on here

Thanks in advance

Hi,

In the order that your jpgs appear oin your post they mean:

1) Can see a signal, but can't connect to data services (the zig zaggy signal bars mean that it's not connected)

2) Can see a 2G (Edge) signal and can connect to data servcies

3) Can see a signal, but can't connect to data services

So it looks like you get an edge signal, but no 3G or 3G+ (HSPA) where you are form the screen shots provided.

It might be that you get a very marginal 3G signal where you are, and a better 2G signal. If the R205 is set to 3G preferred it will connect to whatever is available, be that 2G or 3G. Say your device is connecting to a 2G bearer (which is what the E on your 2nd jpg means) and it then sees a glimmer of 3G it might well disconnect from 2G and try 3G, but if the signal isn't strong enough it might have trouble doing so.

The first thing I would try is setting it to 3G only and see if this makes any difference. If you can't pick up a 3G signal try 2G only:

Open a browser

Type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar and press return

Log in to the R205 interface (admin is the default password)

Click on Mobile Broadband

Click on change (in the central white portion of screen)

Select 3G only (or 2G only if you can't pick up a 3G signal) click save

This will stop the R205 automatically switchign between 2G and 3G.

If you find that locking it to 2G or 3G doesn't fix your problem let us know whta happens and we might be able to assist further,.

Thanks
