Lithium batteries really don't like being allowed to go flat. In some cases, the device may become unusable. In others (more likely), it can take several hours for charging to even start. Try leaving the phone plugged in for 24 horus and see what happens. If it's still playing dead, you may need to organise a repair. The battery should be covered by the warranty.
