Rich Communications

Is there a problem with the chat or rich communications service that is supported on Android phones with the vodafone software when messaging as mine and my girlfriends are always failing lately. I've already turned the phone on and off as well as undertaking a factory reset which hasn't solved the issue.

Thanks

@alimead650 good question! I'm sure one of the eForum team will be able to check on the service status for you as soon as they pick up this thread.

In the meantime you can disable it on your phones which shoudl allow you to use SMS without any issues.

How do I turn off Message+ and Call+ so I can text as normal?

@alimead650 We're not aware of any issues.

What error messages/issues are you experiencing?

The messages are always failing. It says failed to deliver message. I've reported it to Vodafone before through the call centre and in store but they did not have a clue that this was even a function available on the phone but having spoken to Samsung they have informed me it is a issue which Vodafone should have to fix

@alimead650

Is your data working fine for other apps/websites?

As this is a third party app, we wouldn't be able to do anything on our end to fix it if your data is working for everything else.

Is it not the Vodafone apps that he is referring to, Message + and Call + as above?

My data is working fine and this happens whilst also connected to wifi. It is neither a 3rd party app nor is it the message + and call +. It is similar to the imessage on the iPhone, however it only let's me send a 'chat' message when it is sending another message to a Samsung that is on the Vodafone network. To use this function is simply press messages (the messages app that is standard with the phone) and the send button will change colour from yellow to green if the other user has the 'chat' facility enabled. Everytime I send a message using this facility it just fails. The benefit of using this function is that you can send text as well as pictures using your data allowance rather than as a MMS message. If I could attach a picture to show you I would however I have had a live session with Samsung who have remotley connected to my phone and have advised it is a issue that Vodafone will need to resolve.

Sorry, is this what you are referring to?

"Why are my messages sometimes sent as chat and sometimes as texts?

Messages are sent as chats if the person you’re messaging has Message+, Rich Communication Services (RCS) and a data connection. Otherwise messages will be sent as text or picture messages. (This function isn’t supported on iOS.) You’ll always know which type of message will be sent (text, picture message or chat) before you send it.

You can see whether you’ve sent a text or a chat – most devices show them in different colours. Consult your device manual for specific advice."

It is. However they are always failing lately and it must be around 4 weeks since this fsult developed. Thanks

thanks - the reason I asked is that through Vodafone this works on Message+, therefore it should be something that the Tech Team can help with.  T&C's for Message+ show:

"If you and your contacts have a Rich Communication Services (RCS) compatible client and both have data enabled, the messages and files will be sent and received over the internet (Instant Messaging), otherwise messages and files will be sent via text and picture message.

Group chat only works with RCS enabled contacts who are currently active on Message+ (Online-Group Chat)."

Though this might confirm it was a Vodafone issue rather than a third party app issue. 🙂
