Ring and notification tones change on their own

I have had a Vodafone Smart Phone 6 for a couple of months. 

I have a problem that the ring and notification tones (I use my own downloaded ones)  sometimes chang on their own foe no reason and I have to change them back. Anyone any clues what I can do ( without resorting to factory reset)

What do they change back to - is it one if the pre loaded ones ?

If the phone is allowing you to choose one of your own and plays when an incoming call / notification occurs they must be of the required format. 

Are these chosen tones in the phones storage memory or Sd card. If Sd card perhaps move them to the phone and set them again. 

If this fails then a factory reset would be your next logical move after creating a back up.

Yes they change to pre loaded ones.

I have the downloaded ringtones on the sd card so I have moved them to the phone to see if that makes a difference.
