Roaming data from China

Hello,

I have a pay-monthly line (with some roaming data for Europe), and I am currently traveling in China. When I arrived, my roaming data connected to the network (though it was indicated "E" like emmergency, but it still worked), without doing anything. But after some times it stopped working and now I cannot access internet.

Thus I tried to apply for the world traveler option, by texting ADD to 40508, but it seems that I cannot even send text messages now. Or maybe it's because this number doesn't work from abroad? So how can I activate the world traveler options from abroad?

Thanks,

Nicolas

Hi

There is official information in this link from Vodafone that may help you.

Link > Vodafone and travelling-abroad.

Sometimes when a person is having difficulty roaming abroad some troubleshooting tips are -

  • Checking Roaming is definitely turned on in myvodafone.
  • Checking that no account bars are turned on in myvodafone.
  • Check Mobile Data is still turned on in the phones settings.
  • Check if the network your latched to is having issues itself by any available network checker.
  • Manually choose another network and sswitch back if required to the one you were on.
  • Check the phones settings for anything relevant to roaming and data settings.
  • Try your sim in another phone to rule out the phone or simply card that's at fault.
  • Contact Vodafone UK Customer service via Live Chat or one of the while abroad numbers. +44 7836 191 191 from abroad (free from a Vodafone mobile)
  • If your phone is unlocked use a local sim card instead while your there.

To add unfortunately as Vodafone has no direct control over a foreign network then even though everything may look set up correctly there is no guarantee of service and connection or the quality of.

E stands for Edge which is the technology that came before 3G - often called 2.5G

I would imagine you have reached your data cap which is why data has stopped. Have you not received any text messages from Vodafone about roaming and costs?

Hi @natahem

If you are on a Red or Red Value Bundle and agreed your contract after 5th May 2016, you will automatically be opted into World Traveller.

If your contract was agreed before 5th May last year, you would need to opt in.

If you have opted out, the standard roaming charges for data is £3.00 per MB for the first 5MB and £15.00 per 5MB thereafter.

The only way you are going to get your service online in China is by contacting Vodafone on  +447836191191 from any other phone.  It's possible that you may have a restriction bar which needs to be removed.
