Samsung Galaxy Alpha Screen won't come back on

Hi,

I hope someone can help with my issue. I received a brand new galaxy alpha today and there seems to be an issue where I can lock the phone and then instantly unlock it but if I leave it a while the screen just stays black no matter what I do.

I have pushed all of the buttons and the screen stays black. I know the phone is on because the light is flashing to say I have a message, and it will connect ot my PC via USB but the screen just stays black.

Please help?

Thanks.

Just tried a factory reset and it made no difference. Irritating that I might have to send this back for a replacement...

Hi and welcome to the forum

I appreciate it's frustrating when something like this happens.

These are Samsung's Hard Reset Instructions.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha hard reset.

Power off the Galaxy Alpha phone. Press and hold both Volume Up + Home+power on. In the recovery menu select wipe data factory reset with Volume button. Press power to confirm. Select highlight Yes-- erase delete all data press power to confirm. After hard reset completed, select reeboot system now! All data will be lost!

Unlock Samsung Galaxy Alpha password lock, resetting Samsung Galaxy Alpha

Press and hold POWER key for more than 7 seconds to reset the device if it has fatal errors or hang-ups, or freezes.

Your device freezes or has fatal errors
If your device freezes or hangs, you may need to close programs or reset the device to regain functionality. If your
device is frozen and unresponsive, press and hold the Power key for 10-15 seconds. The device will reboot automatically.
If this does not solve the problem, perform a factory data reset. In Idle mode, open the application list and select
Settings → Privacy → Factory data reset → Reset phone → Erase everything.

Performing a data reset
Delete all settings and data on the device. Before performing a factory data reset, ensure you
back up all important data stored on the device. Refer to Backing up and restoring data
for more information.
On the All apps screen, tap Settings → Backup and reset → Factory data reset → Reset device → Erase everything. The device automatically restarts.

Press Application button, then Settings > Reset settings: Reset your settings to the factory default values.

While using your device, be sure to back up important data. When disposing of your device, back up all data and then reset your device
to prevent misuse of your personal information.

Use this method to hard reset your Samsung Galaxy 4 SM-N910: Enter *2767*3855#. Warning! All your data including contacts, messages etc. will be lost! Copy all your necessary data/Contacts/Messages etc. to SIM or make backup to your PC before full reset! Take out SIM card before full reset.

If these and your own efforts do not work and you've checked the settings in the phone then I'd return the phone within the cooling off period especially as it's a new phone and not reasonable to have to deal with a possibly faulty phone.

Annoying to have to send it back Yes I agree but more annoying if you were stuck with a handset that had to be repaired if past the cooling off period.

Hope this gets sorted ASAP.
