Solution

Samsung S8 Restarting

I have had my S8 for 5 days now. I seem to be having a problem. The phone randomly restarts at least 5 times a day - can be during a phone call - using an app or simply browsing on the net. Very very annoying. I saw a forum in the US and it seems I am not alone- it does seem to be a serious issue.

Anyone else having this problem and is there a solution?

Hi,

I've not seen widespread reports of the s8 rebooting.

Restarting can be caused by a number of issues.

A rogue app. Try deleting your most recent download ones.

Firmware - See if an update is pending.

App Updates - See if any updates are pending.

Clear the System Cache by turning it Off and using a series of button presses to get into the phones file settings. Choose to clear System Cache.

As a last Resort create a Back Up and Factory Reset. Then don't download your back up and if it's ok then download it. If issues then start then it could be your back up that's corrupt.

If that does not help then if your under 30 days of ownership request a new one.

If over 30 days then if this was me I'd approach a Samsung Experience Store or Cpw with a repair centre in it or lastly let a Vodafone Highstreet Store send it off.

Thanks for that - I will go through your suggestions one by one and see how it goes.

You're Welcome.

As a first step try turning the phone Off and On to soft reboot it.

Hi again - followed the advice given but still randomly restathing!! Exchanged the phone today and guess what - exact same problems- I'm no expert but would guess there's a problem with S8s!!

I will see if Samsung sort this out over the next 3 weeks - If not will return this phone too!!  Very very annoying.

Hi @Billywright

This must be frustrating for you.

I know the phone has a setting thst can be turned on to Reset the phone at pre set intervals. I assume that's not turned on ?

When you received your replacement phone did you set it up without reloading your Back Ups and chosen App's first as suggested in my first reply ?

To add when a new phone is first set up it goes through steps of indexing and updating. This can take a few days.

When the phone resets what happens ? i.e. Does it turn Off, reboot and the Samsung Logo appears back to your lock screen ?

I do hope this settles for you.

Hi.

On the new phone I only imported contacts.

I loaded some essential apps directly from play store - like banking apps which I really need.

I notice the phone tends to freeze first for a few secconds then the dissolving  Samsung logo appears.

I have just checked the auto restart and it is turned off.

I have seen on US forums that this appears to be a widespread issue!

Again thank you very much for your assistance.

You're Welcome @Billywright

Is a Sd Card fitted into your phone ?

Is your iris scanner On as this has been linked.

I'm not yet aware if this is affecting some owners of the s8 phones who's phone has been supplied with the Networks own version of the Nougat firmware and CsC code or if it's also affecting people who have bought directly from Samsung.

I did not put an SD card in. Sadly whilst I use my phone a lot I am clueless about what makes them work!! I simply unpack the phone and go..... I feel sure Samsung will have to fix this eventually.

I am sure this issue will run as more phones are shipped.

Again - thanks for your time and help.
