I have a brand new Smart N8 phone. When I ring someone or they ring me, they cannot hear me, but I can hear them. The only way round this is to press the speaker icon on the call screen whilst the call is being made. Surely, the phone shouldn't be muted by default? Is there a way to change this?

This is where i will go if i have any more problems with the phone - to our own fellow owners who know the thing inside and outside and share freely. Glad it worked for you, it was steveblowers led me in the right direction and deserves any credit.

My wife bought one on Friday 13th and we took it back to the shop on Saturday 14th for the same issue. We receieevd a new phone and this morning the same thing happened on the new phone. NOT HAPPY, the wife that is...." so the guys in Vodafone are going to hear her wrath", wouldn't want to be them........
Bloody joke.....##~## phone anyway............

Had same problem but a post on here had the fix. Go to app permissions and turn off the microphone on Google app. My phone now works fine having done this

I've had exactly the same problem. The solution provided by steveblowers (search this thread) has fixed this. Thanks to Steve...and not much thanks, to be honest, to anyone from Vodafone. This is issue happened straight out of the box for me, the day I got the handset. A perplexed agent in the Vodafone shop could only suggest a factory reset. That initially fixed it, but 2 months later exactly the same issue occured. Considering this handset runs on a Android, a Google platform, you would think the hardware/software would be compatible. (The issue is with the permissions for Google). Any moderator from Vodafone care to comment?
