Smart Ultra 6 Carrier logo in top left corner of notification - how do I remove it?

Hi, How do I remove the Vodafone logo on the left of my black strip at the top (notifications bar). The option 'show mobile network' which works for other brands is missing on the Ultra 6.

Thanks

Weird. As far as I remember I've always seen it or the name of a foreign network if I was overseas and roaming.

@Briancapri

There's been some great comments here already.

This option isn't available on this handset (I can't think of any that we provide that it is available on).

The position of the Network name is coded into the "framework-res.apk" of the Android operating system.
I believe this position is decided by the manufacturer?

My father in law has a moto g (sim free) his network name is on the top left of the notification bar too!

Phone manufacturers are very keen to have networks bulk buy their devices, so this could be something they do to make certain low to mid range devices more attractive to networks?

It's not something that would stop me buying a phone personally but I do appreciate how small things can become quite irritating. 😊

I don't need to see the name of the network except when I'm roaming, which unfortunately isn't enough. But why the name being there causes so much angst is completely beyond me.

On my phone right now I have 5 dots indicating signal strength, the words Vodafone UK, a 3G symbol or a Wi Fi logo, the time, a bluetooth logo, the battery % and a battery logo. If GPS is on I get an indicator for that as well. iOS doesn't have an NFC symbol but I could have a symbol showing that portrait lock has been enabled. I could also have a symbol showing that do not disturb is activated.

And somehow that all fits on even with the enormously long name of the network.

You can't control where things apppear, but you can choose what appears.  The Android system menu allows notifications to be turned off completely for any app and quite a few have their own options for the type they provide.   The one I was referring to earlier, My Data Manager, has a raft, including Persistent Notification which, as far as I can see, just puts the app icon permanently in the bagging area and seems fairly pointless.

My point exactly!! No app or function is going to try and put a notification in the area where the network name is because it knows that the network name is or should be there. So even if there was a way of eliminating the name the area would remain blank.

Thus it isn't taking up any useful space and isn't cluttering anything up.

No, there's clearly no way round this if the carrier name does appear there and I assume that, even if it were possible to make it blank, that area would still be reserved by the operating system.  That's not, afaik, been part of the discussion.   However, if the carrier name doesn't appear there, which I think is what the OP wants, then the area is available for other notifications. A toggle in the system settings would be nice*.   On all the phones I've had and currently have, the network name doesn't appear other than on the lockscreen - notification icons appear at the left hand end of the notification bar and work right as new ones appear until they're cleared.

* I have a feeling there was one in Symbian, but it's a long time since I've used that!

I can't remember which of my phones have and haven't shown the network name because it has neve been important to me. Certainly iPhones DO show the network name. I cannot imagine what number of apps could require the whole of the top bar of a modern smartphone screen as a space to display notifications.

A quick search shows me that this question is asked from time to time on the Android Central forums from owners of Moto x and G and LG G3 among others.

It looks like the only way to do this on an iOS device is to jailbreak.

Thus the moral is that there are lots of different phones that display the carrier name in the status bar and if this is important to you (goodness knows why it would be) you'll have to get a phone that doesn't display the name in the first instance.

Soupdragon on the moto it can be turned off.

At Settings go to Mobile Network settings and uncheck "show mobile network"
