Go into the main settings menu and look for Backup and Reset.   After the process has finished, you can set the phone up again as it came out of the box.

If this fails, depending on how long you've had the phone and where you got it, you'll need to consider either repair or replacement.   Insstore purchaes should be swappable in a shop.   For online purchases, you may need to return it by post.

Hi @sidsilver

You have probably activated restrict background data.  If you enable this setting, it will stop you downloading data in the background and your data will turn on as it has done for access and turn off when you have ended the connection.

You can turn off restrict background data by going into your data settings.  This can be done by going into your mobile data settings the same way as you have described in your previous reply.  You should have three dots or something similar at the top, click on this and uncheck restrict background data.

If you are unclear, the easiest thing is to take the phone into a Vodafone store.  The staff there will soon have it sorted for you.

Hi AnnS

I havn't activated restrict background data, I'm doing a factory reset as we speak

You're welcome.

The factory reset takes the phone back to the last firmware update downloaded.

I hope this procedure helps.

Yes I will, hope its not a bad phone because I wanted a smart 6, they tried to sell me a smart 7.

Went to the Vodafone shop and there is nothing wrong with the phone, its the signal, where I live its really poor.

I should of done a network coverage check but thought it wasn't necessary because the other phones in the house (EE & O2) all have good signal.

So I'm no stuck with a phone that's locked to Vodafone which I cant use.

All networks are different so it's best to check the coverage in the area before signing up.  All networks provide a coverage checker which gives some indication of the signal you could receive.  The coverage checkers aren't a guarantee of actual signal, they are a guide only.

Did you get the phone on PAYG or Pay Monthly?

PWIAC

Phone is on PAYG.

On the way to the Vodafone shop about 5 miles outside my village the phone went mad with texts, updates, codes, so I new before I got there what the problem was, but still went just to make sure.

Thanks for all your help.
