Smart Ultra 6 - person on other end cuts out when I speak

As thread title.

It first happened when I called HSBC today. As the 'robot' on the other end was giving out options, I coughed which resulted in interference and me unable to hear anything. When I was quiet, it was fine. Any noise from me resulted in sound from them being muted.

It was the same when I called and spoke to someone earlier. Everytime I speak, the person on the other end seems to be temporarily muted until I stop speaking.

Is this normal? Sorry if I've not explained things well enough.

Not in my experience with phone calls on Mobile phones or landlines.

Can you try a soft reboot by turning your phone Off and On.

Does this happen at home or everywhere?

Try turning off 4G / 3G in your phones settings to force the phone onto 2G which can be more stable for calls.

Can you try your Sim Card in another phone as a process of elimination to rule out the phone or sim card that may be at fault.

It's the same after a reboot.

I hardly use it for calls but I've only noticed it today at home. Signal strength seems especailly low for some reason.

Seems to be an issue on both 4G and 3G.

Unable to try my sim card in another phone.

It's weird. Just tried it again. Got through to HSBC and started to whistle as the bot at the other end was going through my options. As I was whistling, the sound from the other end again cut out. When I stopped whistling it returned. It's not just with whistling either. Any noise from me and the sound on the other end is automatically muted.

Just done a factory reset but still have the problem. :smileysad:

Hi,

Calling over 4G isn't supported by Vodafone yet so that shouldn't affect anything.

You could if convenient pop into a Vodafone Highstreet Store for them to take a look. If required they coukd send it away to be looked at. Vodafone apply a 24 month warranty on their phones.

I think the closest I can get to the experience your having is if I place my iPhone phone on Loudspeaker.

I assume yours isn't set in anyway to be on loudspeaker ?

What is the icon (looks like a mic) between speakerphone and keypad when you're making calls?

I pressed that and everything appears OK now.

How embarrassing. In my defence, I am new to Android. :smileyhappy:

Thanks to all of you for the prompt help.

You're welcome

I hope things are better for you.

I treat everyday like a school day.

Hi, is there anything in settings, call that could be causing this? I don't have that model but in my android device there are various features including for hearing aids and other things, just a thought.

That could be the mute button?

I can't find anything in the instructions to suggest what it is.
