Smart Ultra 6 - person on other end cuts out when I speak

As thread title.

It first happened when I called HSBC today. As the 'robot' on the other end was giving out options, I coughed which resulted in interference and me unable to hear anything. When I was quiet, it was fine. Any noise from me resulted in sound from them being muted.

It was the same when I called and spoke to someone earlier. Everytime I speak, the person on the other end seems to be temporarily muted until I stop speaking.

Is this normal? Sorry if I've not explained things well enough.

Yes, that's it.

So my microphone was on by default?

Glad it's all sorted as I really didn't want to send it for repair.

It sounded like it to me as your explanation reminded me of when I use my iPhone on loud speaker to pay my Council Tax by their over the phone IVR system.
