Can I ask is Mobile Data turned on in your phones settings ?
Does the phone show a 3G etc in the Status Bar ?
Try texting WEB to 40127, save the settings and turn the phone off and on.
Can you try your Sim Card in another phone as a process of elimination to rule out the phone or sim card that may be at fault.

Sorry Bandofbrothers1, That doesn't seem to work. I got a su6 for my wife on the 23/10/15. She didn't even get the fisrt email/text saying setting are on way. Spent next day and half getting advice that was half right, i.e. instructions followed up to a point but then an instruction that couldn't be carried out. Every time being told, 2nd text will come, send WEB to........., nothing btw the tariff is talk mobile but they aren't in phone. Ended up puting in all settings manually, today the 6/11/15 we still don't know if it's working properly and it appears no 4g as there's no symbol, the phone may be faulty as calls disconnect after a minute or so and the signal strength is very erratic. . I've sent a strongly worded email 2 days ago but no reply. I've just received mine and it appears the same, so here goes Chat line. Not very impressed with Vodafone, Mobile Phones direct ot Talk Mobile.

If you have purchased a Vodafone Smart Ulta 6, the internet settings will already be preinstalled.
When you have Wifi and mobile data turned on, the exclamation mark is perfectly normal. Your phone will automatically disconnect from the mobile internet and use the WiFi Signal where it is available and the exclamation mark should disappear.

No they're not. I had to enter them manually for my wifes phone and it's still cr*p. Grand Master why when asked did no one know the reason for the !. Thank you for enlightening me. Just checked my phone & the wifi is off but the ! is still there, so you may not have enlightened me.
