Smart ultra: Attention Camcorder failed ...

If I try to record video footage I get
Attention Camcorder failed.

I am able to take and view photographs.

If I try to watch any videos, it fails. I have just installed VLC to see if this might help but it hasn't... "Unfortunately a serious error has occurred and VLC had to close".

If I use Video Player, I get a black screen.

If I try to watch any YouTube videos, it says Tap to retry.

I was running out of space so I moved all photos and videos from DCIM to the SD card. I also cleared the cache on a number of apps.

Since doing this, I'm experiencing the issues.

Can anyone advise on configuration settings that might remedy the issue? I assume clearing the cache of one of the apps must have removed a default setting but I have no idea what, where...

Thanks.

Hi there

It does sounds like a hardware issue to me but to narrow down where things lie, have you tried a factory reset on the device?  Before doing one, please ensure you back up all your personal data as a factory reset will completely wipe your device.

To factory reset the device, firstly, turn it off.  Then:

  • Press and hold the Volume up key and the power button.
  • The phone will turn on
  • Keep holding these keys until you see the Android logo
  • Press the power key to enter recovery mode
  • Use the volume keys to scroll to wipe data / factory reset and then use the power button to select

Hopefully this will work and your video recorder will stop playing up, but if it doesn't, you'll need to drop your phone off with Vodafone (assuming you got it directly from them) and they will send it off for repair.

Hi @sucaprio

Is there another 3rd party app you could try as well as VLC ?

A Google search retuned quite a few hits.

One was....

Warning Camera Recording Failed.

Problem: When i try to use the video camera appear an error that said “Warning Recording Failed” and then the camera goes off.

Solution: If this issue only occurs when you try to record a video then try to check first if your phone has sufficient storage space. The camera will either store the saved video file in the internal storage space or to a microSD card. Check the free space of the storage space where the video is going to be stored and make sure that it is large enough. It’s also best if you remove the microSD card then check if the issue still occurs. Next, make sure that your phone is running on the latest software update.

To troubleshoot the problem you should first try to clear the cache and data of the camera app. This deletes the temporary data stored within the app which could be causing the problem.

This issue could also be caused by a third party app that is conflicting with the camera app. To check if this is the case just start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

You can troubleshoot the issue further by starting the phone in recovery mode. From here you first try to wipe the cache partition of your phone then check if the problem still occurs. If it does then backup your phone data then do a factory reset. If after the reset the issue still occurs then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have your phone checked.

I downloaded another Video Player and it plays the video but with significant buffering, the video is distorted in places and the audio is missing.

As drastic as it is, backing up and factory reset might be needed.
