Sony Z3 Screen Issue

I have had the Sony Xperia Z3 compact for just under a year now, I have had so many issues and problems with the handset - faulty proximity sensor, the SD memory card slot is broken and wont retain the SD card and the handset overheats when charging.

The most recent issue, is that the front screen is coming away from the body of the handset, you can cleary see that the glue / adhesive is failing and coming away.  Now the handset keeps loosing WiFI and network connection, and sporadically reboots itself, which leads me to think it may e water damaged - being IP68 certified getting it wet has never been an issue.

My question is, if it is water damage I know these voids the manufactures warranty, but with the water damage originated from a manufacturing defect I want to know where I stand in regards to getting it repaired or replaced.

Hi, your best bet would be to contact Sony directly as Vodafone are very limited as to what they can do, especially if something like water damage is even suspected.

Hi

I would suggest contacting Sony UK Support as only they will be able to officially clarify where you stand.

You'll definitely need to go to Sony with this as Vodafone aren't allowed by any of the manufacturers to do a warranty repair if there's any evidence of damage, however caused.

I'm wondering whether the overheating on charging and the other issues are connected and that the problem is with the battery.  Are you having an issue with it holding charge at all?   If it's faulty, or simply reached the end of its life (it should last longer than this and Sony guarantee them for 2 years), it might be swelling.   That could affect the internals of the phone and might well also be what's damaged the screen.

Just been on with VF customer services via Web Chat, and there saying to send it away, and if the handset comes back waterdamged i will need to buy a PAYG for the remainder of my contract. (14Months)

I have emailed Sony, as I am getting no help what so ever from VF

What you've been told is correct, but that doesn't mean there is water damage.   If there is, Vodafone will have to refuse a warranty repair just as they would for damage (see my previous post).

Honestly, go straight to Samsung on this one.   They'll look beyond the damage and, if there's a clear fault that's at the root of everything else (as I suspect), I'd expect them to deal with it.  They may even give you a replacement rather than attempting a repair.

If you do decide to go to Vodafone and water damage is reported, get the phone back and then go to Sony - but don't mention what Vodafone have said or they'll reject a repair out of hand.

I'm currently on holiday and I've had my Xperia z3 since March 2015. Today I've been taking photos and got a pop up that the temperature was high. The phone then rebooted and stayed on for 5 mins then the screen went crazy for 10mins, touch screen unresponsive and then went off completely.

ive done the hard reboot and the yellow button. There's no damage to the casing and the phone is "allegedly" waterproof...

im now in Jamaica with no phone for 8 days...

Hi

The phone may self resolve. Leave it off for a good few days in a cool area.

If not I don't think theirs much you can do until you return home.

Possibly look to purchase a temporary phone that will accept your SIM card until you return. Try to obtain one that's sim unlocked so it accepts all SIM cards.

Some of the early Xperias did have an issue with overheating in warm weather and relatively intensive camera use, but I thought that had been resolved in later models.

It does sound as though there's an underlying issue here though that's probably making this particular model especially sensitive.
