Sure Signal box not working

I recently had to phone Vodafone because I changed my contract to sim only. Vodafone reregistered it and told me unplug it for 10 minutes then to plug it in again. Did this and all the lights were out (they were lit before). I phoned again and they told me to press the reset button for 30 seconds which I did but nothing, they then said try 20 seconds, again nothing.   I phoned again and was told the box is broken and I need a new one (sorry can't afford one, don't see why I should have to pay to use what I already pay for. Maybe Vodafone should invest in more masts).  Anyway, I suddenly thought I already have another one which was being used at my daughters house and she has just switched networks and no longer needs one so I went and got it.  Strangely, that box is also doing the same thing. Seems odd to me that when Vodafone reset my box (or whatever it is they do) 2 Sure Signal boxes died. There must be more to this. Can anyone help?

Hi,

My apologies if you've looked through this help thread My-sure-signal-has-stopped-working-what-should-I-do.

Normally when an account change occurs or a sim swap its recommended to de register the number for 24 hours and then re register after the 24 hours.

It may also be worth trying a different power supply with the SureSignal (Version 1 & 2 ), as there have been some reports of replacement power supplies solving the issues. Even if lights / power are showing. They are available on eBay for around £10.

From member cineriv "But firstly, have a look around for a suitable unit with a 12 Volt output @ around 1.5Amp capacity that you could 'borrow' to prove the fault. Suitable units can be found on external hard drives, monitors, printers, routers etc.etc."

A Sure Signal is covered by a 24 Month Warranty.

Tip : In order to use your daughters Sure Signal she would have needed to De Register it before you can register to it yourself.

Also a sure signal deactivates after a period of inactivity as per

"How long has it been since you last used your Vodafone Sure Signal?

Not for the last three months: We may have put a bar on it. You can remove this bar by calling us free on 191 from your Vodafone mobile.

Not for the last 12 months: Your device may be fully de-registered. Contact us if you’d like to reactivate your account. Find out more in our Ts&Cs."

Hi, my box is a V3 which is used daily. It is out of warranty. The box which I got from my daughters is and always has been registered in my account and not hers.
Unfortunately I am unable to use a different power supply as the lead is to short. Maybe I need to buy a longer one but I won't be happy if I do and it doesn't solve the problem.
Seems vet odd that they both worked fine before vodafone reset from their end.

Hello.

I cannot obviously guarantee that a replacement power cord troubleshooting idea for a V1 or V2 will work. This would have to be your decision.

I assume then that it wouldn't have been inactive for the period of time as explained in my previous post.

It does seem odd Yes, but probably coincidence.
