Sure Signal with Virgin Media Super Hub 3.11

Hey All,

 

Have just changed from Sky to Virgin Media and now my sure signal will not work. Anyone found the soloution to this?

It's a known issue with the new virgin media superhub 2. You have to enabe IPSec pass-through on the Firewall page.

Sure Signal works by establishing an IPSec VPN tunnel you never needed to tick the same box on the original super hub and I upgraded 2 days ago, as soon as I did it went to a solid red light.

 

Log in to the router (http:\\192.168.0.1) and, go to advanced, then set the firewall on and 'Low', and make sure IPSec ticked.

Thanks for that advice - it sorted it for me.

 

I lost my Sure Signal connection after Virgin Media replaced my modem/router with the new VMDG485 model the other day but its up an running again now having ticked the IPSec box.

You might want to skicky that tip, Virgin are rolling oout the SuperHub 2 now and will gradually replace the old ones. No doubt there will be a few more in here with the same issue!

Thanks a million, jbozward. I've been trying for a week to get my VSS working again after replacing my router with a Virgin Media New Super Hub 2 and your tip did the trick.  (it hadn't been posted when I started searching the forum)

 

I'd already enabled UPnP, opened the ports required, reset the VSS, and waited days; but to no effect, so enabling IPsec seems the key thing.  I left things overnight but it didn't start working until half an hour after I reset the VSS again (and the hub, for good measure)

 

My router is a Virgin Media New Super Hub v2, made by Netgear, Model: VMDG485, Hardware version: 3.11 & Software version: V1.01.19.  

 

My suresignal v1 had been working fine for years (took a bit of help from tech support when I first got it, to open the ports in my firewall, if I remember rightly).   Since then I've had a few different routers without problem, most recently the original Virgin media super hub, which worked out of the box.  I think it even worked before I'd reserved the IP address - I suppose you only have to do that if you need to open ports, and you don't have to do that if UPnP works.

It's strange that the firewall in the original super hub has an option to enable IPsec, which like you I hadn't enabled, but that didn't stop it working.  Maybe UPnP is allowed to enable IPsec in the original but not the new super hub.

I could test the new super hub with just UPnP and IPsec enabled, but I've already wasted too much time and been without a reliable connection to Vodafone for too long to want to try it.

 

Hi, just adding to your already helpful notes, I wanted all users of the VirginMedia Super Hub 2 to know that you do not need to set/forward those port numbers or edit any other hub settings for the Sure Signal to work providing that you tick that IPSec Pass-through box in the Firewall settings.

I didn't want users to think that the IPSec tick box was in addition to setting the ports or enabling UPnP.  Just tick that IPSec box and your Sure Signal should configure itself correctly without you doing anything else.

I followed the steps you suggested but I am still unable to get anything moving in sure signal.

I see one solid vertical red line and slow flashing internet white light.

Can some one help me. vodafone cust support couldnt help and asked me to contact virgins help which will charge me £60.
