Hi my version 1 VSS failed after a powercut - i managed to get it replaced after 4 days of trying to get it working
The version 2 does the same
All i have is a steady power light and two flashing white lights
All the ports 8,50,123,500,1723,4500 are open for 2 way traffic -
After hours on the phone with level 2 support we have found the IP address for Arcor-IP is where the fault is
this is a Vodafone Germany / Spain IP address and this is where the problem lies
As we can see from other users with the same fault their traces also point to the same IP address in germany !!!!!!!
Why oh why isn't anyone doing anything about this !!!!
Get on the phone or the email and ask Vodafone in germany / spain to sort it out -
What is going on - its been flashing for nearly 3 days now and its trying to connect - i know because my router logs say it is
At first Vodafone blamed BT - but we have finally found its actually a Vodafone problem - the question is where do i go from here ?
The version 1 was working ok until the power cut - now nothing works
My router is perfect - i have 7 meg down and .4 up -
we have re-synced the VSS 4 times and i have reset the router - un plugged the BB and done everything we can - even hard reset the VSS -
Come on Tech Team find out why this IP address in Germany is messing with my VSS connection
I have done Path ping and tracert - they all say the same IP is the problem - ARCOR-IP.NET are the owners of the address - and it is managed by Vodafone !!!
It stops at 85.205.116.14 and 85.205.116.6 - where the request times out
Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated

Hi - i called round to my neighbour who is a BT Broadband engineer and he suggested maybe it was the router and he let me have a Home Hub 3 FOC -
Well he was right -
My router although giving great internet speeds was blocking the ports !!
So i suggest anyone having the same issue as me - Solid Power and flashing Connection /Flashing Phone - uses any of the freely available software to check their ports are actually open !!
Don't beleive the router !
Its working - and it took 30 minutes from the Bt hub being configured until it gave us a connection

I don't suppose that this helps much but my route over BT goes via exactly the same hop 10:

and my SS is working fine - i.e. I don't believe that is the root cause of your problem ... sorry.
Note also that the timeouts once the trace reaches the VF network are expected and NOT a sign of error - VF servers don't respond to ICMP pings.

hi, im posting on here as its not easy to find where to start a new topic. ive had the same problem- power cut now the sure signal doesnt work.
ive tried resets etc, they dont work. internet connection is fine.
can anybody shed some light on what is soon to be a smashed up box that will no longer flash lights.

Replying on a thread on the same subject is fine. It helps us keep things together.
What lights are you seeing on the Sure Signal since the power cut? This will help give us an idea of what the issue may be.
Also, can you confirm the following information for us so we can tae a look and see if anything becomes apparent?
Your Sure Signal serial number.
Your speed test results from here.
Your ping test results from here.
Your external IP address from here.
The results of a traceroute.
VSS Traceroute command
This will help us get the quickest possible resolution for you.

Steve,
Assuming your old router supports it, you could have circumvented tthe problem by moving the Sure Signal into the DMZ. This places the VSS on the outboard side of the firewall so that no ports are blocked.
There's no reason not to do this as, apart from communicating with the DHCP server to get an IP address, the VSS doesn't interact with any other devices on your home network. It's not therefore an attack vector that you need to be concerned about.
