Hi,
A person needs a broadband connection with a minimum minimum upload and download speed of 1Mbps.
If connecting the laptop causes this all the time it appears somehow to be drawing too much band speed causing the Sure Signal to stop as it's possibly not got enough minimum speed required to work.

Many thanks. Thought bandwidth could be an issue although just noticed it's still not working and red light flashing even though laptop shut down and no internet being used?

1,2,3
I ask because It may also be worth trying a different power supply with the SureSignal (Version 1 & 2 ), as there have been some reports of replacement power supplies solving the issues. Even if lights / power are showing. They are available on eBay for around £10.
From member cineriv "But firstly, have a look around for a suitable unit with a 12 Volt output @ around 1.5Amp capacity that you could 'borrow' to prove the fault. Suitable units can be found on external hard drives, monitors, printers, routers etc.etc."
Please take a look through these Sure Signal Trouble Shooting threads :
as these may help to resolve issues. They have links to the key things you can do to try and self resolve the issue you are experiencing.
There is an Issue Not Listed in that link which guides on how to run a traceroute and post your results back here for the Vodafone Tech support team to help you.
