Can someone please tell me why it takes so long for the sure signal to work when switched on every morning it can take anything from 20-40 minutes before I get the solid lights on the box.

mark,

It's interesting thta you say 'switched on every morning'. The device is designed to be left switched on all the time as syncing with the vodafone servers can take some time, somthing your is doing every day.

I would recommend leaving it switched on all the time unless you are away for a long period of time.

Yes I accept that but it's not very cost effective if your leaving your sure signal & your internet on all night is it. I still don't understand why this takes so long surely once your internet connection is live along with your sure signal it should connect !!!

I would have thought most of us keep our broadband connected 24x7. I know I do.

As for why it takes that long for a Sure Signal box to connect, we don't know, and Vodafone don't seem eager to share the reason with us (perhaps new connections are managed by handling them every couple of hours, but that's purely conjecture on my part).

You just have to accept that it's a characteristic of the service and shape your own actions accordingly.

If I turn my SS off it reconnects about 10 mins after I switch it back on.

Do you have ADSL broadband? Switching it off overnight will actually have a negatve effect on your connection.

I would have thought interruptions to the broadband connection would need to be more frequent than that to adversly affect the BRAS profile. Each new connection might be at a slightly different speed but that's just a matter of pot luck.

As for VSS reconnects, I've never actually done it wilfully. 😉

No I have cable broadband with virgin media, 100 meg package.
