As with Mr Tiddler, I have put my sim directly into my netbook running UNR (Ubuntu Netbook Remix) and it "just worked" - I can surf to my hearts content. However, I am unable to determine when I'm about to run out of credit without logging into the web portal - in itself a problem as I didn't have an idea of the phone number on the card, and had to install the dongle software onto another friends PC in order to find it.
Is there any intention to release a Linux version of the manager software ? Failing that, can the Windows executable be made available for running in wine (I can't see the software when I plug the dongle into my PC...), or, even better, would the developers release the source code for us mad programmers to work on to try to provide an open source version?
Many thanks,
DM

I can't see how to automate this on Ubuntu but usually have a terminal with script running and use command
"ifconfig ppp0" at start and end of sessions which gives bytes transferred.
Pppd allows for custom scripts to be run at start and end of connection which would make a usage counter
trivial but none of content of /etc/ppp on my system looks relevant to vodafone connections.

Not something I have looked into before I must admit 😉 However I will investigate. I do find the NetworkManager applet very useful though, as it is so user friendly...

Hey guys,
It's frustrating for us as we want you guys to have a great experience with the product... but the Linux side of things remains yet to be officially supported .
This said, thanks to the guys at Betavine and all the clever work that they do, I don't think it'll be long before we pull Linux 'into the fold' of our official support.
I'm sure some of our community can help on this one - anyone want to contribute?

If the connection manager source code was to be made open source under a GNU licence, I'm sure the linux community would be more than happy to help in the development of it to port it across to linux...
