USB modem - can I access sfr.fr hotspots?

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if i purchase a dongle in the UK (any kind pay as you go or monthly) whether i can access a sfr.fr hotspot (ie vodafone france) for free when in France or will it still be subject to all the extra charges for surfing abroad?
I would in theory just buy a french dongle when i am over there but that is quite a mission in itself.

Hi there!

If you have a laptop with wireless card and you are able to find a 'free' wifi hotspot, then I would use it, however ensure that you have a good firewall and anti - virus installed.

That is all I can say on this matter - hope it is of some assistance.

If you take the Seafrance Molière Ferry there is Wi-Fi (we have not tried it yet though). Norfolkline have wifi available in the business lounge.

Brittany Ferries also now has wifi on board.

You could use a Vodafone UK dongle whilst abroad however this would be subject to roaming charges.

You could always use a Vodafone UK dongle with a Vodafone FR SIM however IM unsure What Vodafone FR offer in terms of data SIM's

Thank you. You've confirmed that i do need to get a french sim/dongle (annoying as you have to provide id two weeks in advance and other red tape in france!)
Thank you Mr Bond also for the wi-fi stuff. My question was actually purely for sfr.fr when you have a vodafone account as i am going to be staying in france regularly and the place in France has an sfr.fr hotspot which you need a sfr.fr account to access for free. I was hoping there was a way via the UK vodafone to connect to it for free to avoid the french red tape. There are open hotspots in the town generally though so i don't need to resort to McDonalds thankfully but thank you very much for your efforts 🙂
