Can you upgrade to a SIM only plan when you're eligible for an upgrade? Or does a device have to be involved?
Kind regards.

Hi,
Yes you can go from a full pay monthly contract to sim only.
You would be better off doing this at your contract end date and not your upgrade date or you may have to pay off the remaining months or they may add the remaining months to yiur new contract.

Please refer to my earlier post regarding flexible upgrades. When you have a SIM only contract, you are able to take advantage of the flexible upgrade option and upgrade to a full phone contract after three months without the need to complete the remaining time left on the SIM only contract.
The new full contract will only be 24 months.
It might be worth mentioning if you have a full contract, before being able to change to a cheaper SIM only contract, you have to complete the full 24 month minimum term. It is no longer possible to change to SIM only in upgrade period.
Do we know when this change took place?
E.g. When the policy came into force?
Can users buy out of their remaining months to change to sim only early?
Thanks.

Hi @TomCrooky
I am quite certain it was fairly recent, June/July this year. However, if you are on a full contract you can't change to SIM only until the end of contract. You can always pay off a contract. If that is what you would like to do, give Customer Services a call or use live chat, they will let you know the charges.

Hi @B-12345
Providing you are in your upgrade period, you can change your tariff to a 12 month SIM only contract.
The benefit of changing to a SIM only contract is even if you will be paying less for the contract on a monthly basis, you will be able to take advantage of the new tariff immediately. The only thing Vodafone will do is to add on the remaining time left on the previous contract at the new lower prices.
There is also the added advantage of a flexible upgrade. Please see below.
edit 20th August.2017. Please note this has now changed. If you are on a handset 24 month contract, until you are out of contract, it is not possible to change to a cheaper SIM only contract.

Defintely call up! I won't go into the specifics but Emma got a whopping 28% saving and they threw in an extra GB data which she will just sustain a thumb injury scrolling through Facebook.
That aside the savings are to be made. I'm on the 20GB for £20 and I hope they can either match that or better the deal in Feb. Fingers crossed..

@Anns has given the correct information.
Just to clarify what the 3 scenarios.
Before you are in Upgrade window, you can change your Tariff to any current Tariff anytime in during your contract as long as it is more than what you currently pay. Commitment date remains the same.
Once you are in Upgrade window, you can change any tariff (exception 30 day SIMO). You will have a new commitement date which basiccally would be adding the new Tariff Period to your current commitment date.
Once you are out of commitment date in your last 30 days, you can change to any tariff including 30 day SIMO as well. Your commitment date will be the day you change + the Tarriff Length.
And one more option I missed is, if you are on a 12 Month SIMO plan, then after 3 months, you can change to any Tariff with Phone.
Edit: Correction.

My experience is that with 3 months to go of a 2 yr contract. I could not get a sim only deal without paying the other 3 months in full! I would have been happy to be tied in for 15months vs 12 or pay my existing £25 / month vs £19 on sim only but I was asked for a full £75 to move to sim only.
