VSS V2 and HTC Wildfire, Talk mobile

HI,

I have a newly installed SS V2 - given to me but looks not to have been out of its box by the previous user - can't be sure.

It regisered, set on myvodaphone... etc and now has power & system lights steady.

But my phone does not seem to want to connect to it - it is set variously for Auto GSM/WCDMA or just WCDMA - unfortunately at the moment I can't lay my hands on another 3G handset, but this one will connect to 3G, or H services on the main cells.

Second question - my wife has a handset which is with Talk Mobile (carphone warehouse) delivered by Vodaphone - I don't seem to be able to add her handset to it - sort of feels like I ought to be able to get that to go too... at some point I will try hers (Smasung Galaxy Ace) when I can manage to swap sims...

Thanks for your input.

Dave

Hi there

I'm not sure why you can't connect, someone with a little more technical knowledge of SureSignal devices should be able to help you.

I can say why your wife can't connect.  She isn't a Vodafone subscriber, her contract is with Talkmobile.  Only customer who subscribe directly with Vodafone, and not through a mobile virtual network operator, can connect to a SureSignal device.

PWIAC

Yes thanks for the reply, one on some thought that the wildfire - which is a bit old not being incompatible...

And Yeah I read more after I posted (main reason to post was down to me not connecting - I had not thought that deeply about Mrs...) and saw much upset at the virtual voda network users... I'm not a flame firing nutter but I can admit to being rather narked about it ... but I guess it is what it is.

More generally if things don't improve then I rather think my 12 month contract will be just that - compared to previous network (o2) it certainly feels like we are getting much poorer coverage ... and - so sort of circumstantial but we are all seeing dropped calls on cell handovers - it seems to happen at home a lot even between a 2G and 3G cell neither of which are very strong and swap as you walk about - obviously this is on the edge anyway ... and hence the SS device being a good thing if we can get it going.

Anyway less of that - this thread is in hope of fixing the SS!

Thanks,

Dave

Hi matt,

I'm not at home now BUT I have most of that:

my IP at home (last night - I think it changes every now n then) - 5.198.6.225

Ping was 44-47ms

I don't have the speeds (left it open in my browser but it blanked it) but it was about 3Mb Down and ~500kb down - I'll check again when I get home.

tracert bombed out - :

Duh - I missed the serial number off : 40121204636

And I recovered the speed test results - 3.39Mb UP and 0.75Mb down.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for posting your results. I can see your speeds are OK and the IP address is fine too. Your tracetoute seems to have a little bit of a staggered start though. Who is your ISP and which make and model of router are you using?

Checking the Serial Number the registration keeps failing through the 8th as did the adding of some numbers last night. Once we have more details we can troubleshoot a bit further. :Winking_smiley:

Cheers, Ben

Hi Ben,

Not quite sure what you mean by 'failing throught the 8th' ...

ISP is Karoo - not sure exact model of router - but it is a Solwise SAR some such with wifi too. (I'll try and add some details soon!)

Dave

Hi there dippyhull,

Sorry for the confusion.

I'm not sure what he meant either.

In this post, you say the speeds are 3.39Mb UP and 0.75Mb down. Is this a typo?

I hope I'm not wrong in assuming the speeds are actually 3.39Mb down and 0.75Mb up. Feel free to correct me.

Checking the Sure Signal, I can see it connected last night at about 7pm. Has service been ok today?

Cheers,

LeeH

Lee,

Yup, just me typing rubbish - your assumption about the speeds is correct.

When you say connected at 7pm, do you mean my phone connected to it, or it to your server? I'm afriad I dont know - I was somewhat busy with Kids bedtimes round then so paid no attention then went out. I can look again tonight ... I was wondering if the router needed any ports messing with etc... but I have as yet failed to look up the model underneath it...
