VSS V2 will not connect to my BT Home Hub 3

I received my brand new VSS V2 on Friday. I followed the set-up guide in the box but after 48 hours all I have is a steady power light and the system and phones lights flashing at the same time.

After 24 hours, I read some threads on this forum, I have done the following:-

1, press and hold the reset button on the VSS

2, opened ports 8, 50, 123, 500, 1237, 4500 on my BT Home Hub 3

3, enabled port clamping

4, enabled DMZ for the VSS

5, I even turn the firewall off for 2 hours (now turned back on)

It has been over 24 hours with these settings on my Home Hub but I still have the same flashing lights display.

What should I try next?

Serial number is 40112873829

Hi guys,

It's great to hear that this is working for the three of you now.

Let us know if you have any issues down the line - we'll be happy to help!

algipee - your checks did seem a little slow, so if you have any issues, can you re-run the trace route and speed test so we can see if they've improved? Whatever was causing it may have cleared up but it could be a good place to start.

flatch69 - When you speak to your ISP, you need to ask them to investigate the reason for the delay on hop 11 of that trace route. The speed test looks OK, but that hop is certainly exceeding what we'd be expecting.

As with the others on this thread my VSS starting working this morning. Don't you think it's strange they all start working at the same time.

Also there are many similar threads at the moment with people using other ISP's.

My VSS took 6 days before it finally started to work which i think is unacceptable.

Hi flatch69

Welcome to the eForum!

Hmm that’s an odd one if the router is set correctly this should just work. I have initiated a resync of your Sure Signal box. This has completed successfully so I would suggest performing a factory reset on the Sure Signal box

To factory reset the Sure Signal box:

  • Hold down the reset button until all the lights show (about 30 seconds) keeping the reset button held down.
  • Remove then re-insert the power lead.
  • Once all lights display release the reset button. The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.

I would recommend as a test powering down your router and sure signal. disconnecting all PC devices from the router and powering the router back up with just the Sure signal attached (and powered up)  once this has come up I would then connect a PC to the Router and test the internet connection by performing the following on a PC :

  • Click on Start  and select Run
  • Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
  • A black box will appear.
  • In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter

Paste the output of this command into your reply along with a copy of the results from running a speed test

Have you tried just opening port 1723 and not 123? Have you seen this thread at all?

Thanks

BenJ

Hi,

Still having problems after 3 weeks!!!

I've now been without a signal for over a month, Vodafone don't value their customers at all.  Our mast has been down for over a month now, with no fix due any time soon, I've had no refund on my monthly subscription and quite frankly if my boss hadn't bought this ss box, I'd have cancelled my Direct Debit.

I've done a tracert to see if someone can figure out what's wrong, although I'm not going to hold my breath.

Trace complete.

Mate this is normal for BT.

Mine stops at the same place because we can no longer trace all the way through.

I will see if I can get my hands on a BTHH3 I only have HH1&2 at home to test on, generally I advise Netgears.

Can you look and see if the guide to the HH2 applies, there is something in it about VPN Port Locking being enabled/disabled.

Generally the only port that needs to be opened is TCP 50 inbound and QoS on the MAC Address on the SS needs to be highest, I'd also static IP the SS on the router, on Netgear I have to disable SIP ALG to ensure it works.

Android: Nexus 6 32Gb, 5.1.1

Windows: Lumia 735 Green, 8.1 GDR2

Tablet: iPad Air 32Gb, 8.4.1

Thanks for the advice daffi85.  I'm not entirely sure how to interpret what you've suggested, but I'll give it a try.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained....

Well i've tried everything (other than an alternative router as I don't have one) everyone has suggested on this thread and others.  STILL NOT WORKING!!!!

Vodafone are ignoring my posts and emails so think I'll give it to the end of the week, cancel my Direct Debit and put the Sure Signal in the bin!
