Vmc Wont Open Error "mobile Direct Has Encountered A Problem And Needs To Close"

Last night my Asus eee Seashell installed an asus software update. Since then I've been unable to open my Vodafone Mobile Connect Software.

I have tried a restore to an earlier date to try and undoo the update that was installed however this did not work and I still go the same "Mobile Direct has encountered a problem and needs to close" error.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the VMC software and yet I still get the same error.

This is a Netbook that i have recieved from Vodafone as part of my contract to 3G mobile broadband,

Please can somebody help me sort this problem out so I can go back to using my 3G

Oh and if a factory restort is required, i do not have a disk drive.

Many thanks

If its a notebook with the sim card in the back then its gonna have to go back to the manufacturer.
Alternatively to get a 2nd opinion call 1st Line Tech on 191.

Reason being as the laptop is made/designed with the software built in therefore its the manufacturer that will need to solve this issue as its seems to be a hardware fault/conflict with the update you done.

it's not a notbook with a sim built in. It has a vodaphone dongle. And it was an automatic update that the netbook carried out, surely that shouldn't cause a problem. I've only had the netbook 2 weeks and i got it from vodaphone

Isn't there any way I can just retore to factory setting without a disk drive and then reinstall VMC?????????

Thankyou for your reply!!

Hi Diz,

As far as I'm aware the Asus Eee PC runs Linux, is that correct? If so, then I'm afraid our Linux version of Vodafone Mobile Connect is still in the beta testing phase, and no official support can be offered. I'd recommend checking in with our BetaVine community for Linux-centric troubleshooting.

If you've got a different Operating System running, please let us know what it is and we'll endeavour to help :)

Hi Jon,

No it came with Windows XP. I got this laptop 2 weeks ago from vodaphone and VMC worked fine. Then the ASUS auto installed an update and since then Ive received the error.

Thanks for you reply

Hi diz,

Thanks for getting back to Jons post. I'll be honest, I'm a little confused at this one myself  as far as I'm aware Vodafone have only ever supplied laptops with the SIM built in and we have only ever ranged Dell Notebooks or the latest Samsung NC10 units. Which Vodafone store or online shop did you get the Asus Eee from with?

As You're running Windows XP it shouldn't be an issue at all, especially now you've tried reinstalling the software. A manufacturer repair QyKo mentions in their post may be the only route to go now. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help I'll be sure to mention it to the others though to see if it's a laptop I've yet to have training on myself and get back if they can suggest anything else! ;)

Cheers, Ben
