Solution

Vodafone Connect SKY+ not connecting to On Demand or SKY+ Android App

Conshelf

Migrated from Demon Broadband to Vodafone Broadband on 23rd September.

Working through the minor issues, like email etc.

Final one is getting the SKY+ box to attach to the On Demand service and to get the Android SKY+ app to connect locally to the Sky+ box.

SKY+ is wire connection to the Connect router so IP address assigned, but Fail on connection to On Demand service.

SKY+ App fails to find local SKY+ box?

Anyone experiencing the same and has fixed?

Er, the problem is with Vodafone's router and not with the Sky box.

The problem may well be with Vodafone's router - but until Sky modify their app to work with that router, there isn't much that you can do.

PWIAC

Sky's App works with most routers (at least BT, D-Link, Belkin, etc.). In fact it works with Vodafone if the Sky+HD box is also on the wireless network. It is only when it is on the wired network that it doesn't work (a much preferred setup due to the better and more reliable bandwidth)..

Thus it is pretty clearly Vodafone's router that is at fault for not working with the Sky App, or the Pioneer iControlAV5 amp control app. Other users report problems with Sonos, NAS devices, etc.

This wouldn't be a problem if Vodafone didn't stop customers from using anything other than their own crippled router.

The issues lies in the way data is allowed between the wireless and wired network. BT used to have this problem and fixed it.

I know that Pioneer iControlAV5 app uses TCP on port 8102.

Nudge. Issue progressed yet?

Hello @abjabj

To discuss this problem please call our technical support team on 08080 034 515.

Louise

Thank you Louise, but why would do I need to call when this is a commonly reported issue that isn't being fixed for others. I have spent quite enough time speaking with your mobile phone colleagues in the past 10+ weeks about a persistent issue that they couldn't fix for the longest time.

Please post here when a solution has been identified. Then it will be worth following up with CS, if that is what needs to happen, For now, I will only get frustrated.

Isn't the whole point of a forum shared solutions and self service, not as a funnel for your call centre?

Louise. I did get in touch just now and was told that a) you don't know when the firmware will be released to fix the issue and b) that Vodafone have stopped giving out the vDSL username and password.

This is a disappointing way to treat customers. I recommend that users considering Vodafone Broadband choose a different provider. I regret doing so myself.

I look forward to my contract ending. I wish I had the will to take this further. I guess it is cold comfort that your "service" is as cost effective as it is. My lesson being that you get what you pay for, sadly.

New Broadband router firmware 5.4.8.1.291.1.30.1.19 downloaded 30 minutes ago has at last addressed this extremely annoying bug whereby the WiFi and wired devices were isolated from one another. Wish it hadn't taken more than a year, but pleased that it is at last sorted.

Also shows that it was a Vodafone issue all along. Shame on Vodafone for blaming Sky.

And Vodafone have changed their policy of not giving out VDSL username & passwords allowing us to use our own modems (admittedly without support). See: http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Broadband-Home-Phone/HOW-TO-Use-a-third-party-router-on-Vodafone-VDSL...
