Hi there. Firstly the speeds and setup on my broadband have been great, so has most of the customer support I have had with initial gremlins on setup

I do have two big headaches though. I have a zyxcel nsa325 network drive which I store music, photos, movies etc on and On my old plusnet modem I just plugged it in the ethernet port and my Hitachi tv saw it. Now although the drive is visible through my PC and is visible wordlessly on the home network, the drive is not seen by my TV *unless the drive is plugged directly into the the ethernet port on the TV. So what setting am missing, there is no help or suggestions on the net, with it being a new modem there is no firmware 6 for it either.

Secondly, when I signed up for vodafone home broadband I was told that I would get 10 email addresses too, I have no idea where they are or indeed the pop/imap.plus.net settings for the addresses or the settings so I can send emails on my current email address.

Hope someone can help and thanks in advance

Mick

Long shot I know but.....

.... Any update from Vodafone reps here on the latest status/timescales for a firmware fix please?

Thanks

Good luck getting a reply to that.  So far none of the vodafone staff members have even made a reference to the issue here.  You'd probably have to phone up.  When I called a couple of months back, January was given as the very earliest date.

Hi, could you please explain the configuration on VF router?

Do I need to make any other changes on the VF router or is it just a matter on switching off Wi-FI on the VF router?

I've not had extensive problems where I've needed to use a seperate router. For me and for many it's sufficient to disable the 5Mhz wifi on the VF router.

However if you want to go down the full route of using the VF router as the modem and the router of your choice as the main router, your chosen router must be a ROUTER, and not a MODEM router, i.e. the WAN (external) connection must be RJ45 network and not the smaller RJ11 phone line connection.

Then on the VF router disable both wifi, and DHCP. Set the LAN (internal) connection to an IP or your choice, e.g. 192.168.1.1 (mask 255.255.255.0 )

On the second router, set the WAN connection to another address matching the VF router range, e.g. 192.168.1.2 (mask 255.255.255.0 ). Set the LAN DHCP on, and to another IP range, e.g. 10.0.0.1 (mask 255.255.255.0 ), set DNS on this router to point to the VF (192.168.1.1) Turn on wifi on this router.

Connect WAN on your router, to one of the internal LAN connections on the VF router, this should be the only internal connection to the VF router, connect all other connections to your chosen router.

The VF router now bridges the outside world to your router, Your router provides all internal wifi and physical connections, it provides internal IP addresses, it provides the internal DNS, and routes all requests to the VF router which passes them on to the outside world DNS servers.

Hope this is clear enough for you.

Richard

It is Christmas. Maybe they have a surprise present for us?

The likelihood that they will have a surprise for us is pure profilgacy.

They havent sorted out this issue in over a year but have only just started to accept that their equipment is at fault.

I just use their "router" as a modem now and used my own router and have had no issues with NAS or Sonos devices since, but the only issue that I see is that have 2 devices that SHOULD being doing the job of 1 and the extra electricity.

Well, this thread just keeps on going....

Posted about the problem and use of a switch solution on 30/09/2015.

However, AFAIK the 5Ghz wireless issue apparently still persists. I say AFAIK because I am using my own equipment which works flawlessly.

How long does it take to resolve a fundamental flaw whilst denying most paying customers the choice of using their own equipment?

Looking forward to March 2017 when my contract is up.

Discussed the problem with the LAN/Wi-Fi issue into different posts, I got a call from the VF support team suggesting me to add a Wi-Fi hotspot to the router until next firmware update.

I can believe this problem has been reported 2 years ago.

Joker123, The best option is to take note of the Wifi Settings(Name/Passwords) and shutdown the WIFI on the Vodafone Connect router and treat it as a Fibre Modem, and connect your own router into it, and then reprogram all the WIFI setting into the new router and all the wifi devices will just connect.

I did that and have no problem since with devices disappearing and I have got my Gigabit networking back as well.

Hi - I want to plug in a 2nd router to the vf router, but I am confused on the actual set up.

e..g what to switch off on the vf router (DHCP, wifi) and what else I need to configure.

I think it woudl be extremely useful to the entire group to show a step by step guide on the new vf firmware of the essential steps.

I currently have another router set in bridge mode (but I am unsure what else needs to be configured).

I assume I need to plug in all extreme lan cables into the 2nd router??

Any help would be greatly apprecaited - the frequent drop offs (Sonos, Network) is driving me insane.

Thanks in advance.
