Vodafone K3565 Dongle - I Can't Connect Since Using A Spanish Modem

rxe

OK, a moderately involved chain of events, I'll try and summarise.

I have a K3465 stick that used to work perfectly, it gave the occasional RAS 720 which is apparently a Lenovo issue, but I could live with that.

Then I went to Spain for a few weeks, and rather than paying the hotel's outrageous WiFi rates, I bought a similar Voda stick (can't remember the exact model, but it was white....), and used that. Perfect, great signal (much better than UK)....all good.

So I get back to the UK, and my UK stick no longer works.

The original error was a RAS 619. I removed, then reinstalled the VMC software, no difference. I removed all of the modems and network connections, then got a "Mobile Device Cannot Connect" message.

I have just upgraded to the 9.4.6.20529 version of VMC, and it is giving me RAS 680. When I put the SIM in my mobile, it registers and dials fine, but cannot complete the call because it says I am not subscribed. As this SIM is a PAYG data card, I suppose this is to be expected.

Any thoughts? I really, really need it working on Friday morning!

I should think that this is a simple fix by making sure the APN's are set correctly, Go into Manage Connections and click Veiw, Click New along to top tabs clcik on APN and make sure thats set to ppbundle.internet and the User name and PAssword are both "web"

Let me know how you get on!

Unexpected behaviour.

When I select the "Vodafone UK" settings, that you cannot edit to see what the APN settings are....I get the 680 error.

So I created a new "Custom" setting with ppbundle.internet and web/web, and it doesn't give the 680, it just stays at the "Connecting to Vodafone UK 3G" dialogue, with the blue bar constantly moving. No connection.

Any other ideas?!

Hi rxe,

That certainly sounds odd

I'm not certain what should've caused this, so we'll need to narrow it down a little more. Do you have another computer you could test the modem with so that we can rule out an account/modem fault? Once this has been done, we can concentrate on software settings instead, or perhaps try a clean uninstall of the software.

Let me know how you get on :)

I'll try it on my PC at home tonight - its never had VMC installed so should be a "clean" test.

OK. PC at home was entirely uncoperative - wouldn't even bring up the CD drive in the stick. That doesn't surprise me, as that particular PC is pretty tired and I had quite a fight to get a simple USB mouse working.

In desperation, I've tried the UK SIM in the Spanish Stick (a K3765) on my laptop and that doesn't even find a network.

The UK stick does seem fine, it connects to the laptop perfect and finds the network very quickly, it just can't connect to the network.

Small update

I went into my "New Custom" settings with the ppbundle.internet and web/web, and changed it to gibberish. No difference - I just get the blue bar forever. So it looks like it sin't even getting round to checking credentials.

Going back to "Vodafone UK" I still get the RAS 680.

Further update. I noticed that in my Modems section of the control panel, the Thinkpad Modem kept coming to the front of the connection list. So I've disabled it in Control Panel. This has changed the 680 to a 619!

Checked on another laptop, there's nothing wrong with the dongle, it found the network and connected instantly. Continues to give 619 errors on the laptop that I use.

Hi rxe

Error 619 can occur for a multitude of issues:

1 - network congestion
2 - sim provisioning
3 - issue with the port detecting the dongle
4 - hardware issue
5 - incorrect apn
6 - incorrect username / password

You have stated that you can get the dongle to work on a different laptop. If this is the case we can discount both 2 and 4. If the issue were congestion, you should be able to connect on some occasions, as this isn't happening we can discount this also.

Settings in VMC should be as follows:

apn - pp.internet (or pp.bundle.internet is you have the K3565r modem)
username - web
password - web

Again if these are correct, it may be an issue between your laptop and dongle.

if you can check that everthing is set up as I have stated, and you are still getting errors, let me knowand I'll look into this further.

I have found that if you change dongles between Spain and the UK you need to change the settings that say 'contract' or 'pre pay' around!
