Vodafone K3570-Z White doesn't install properly

OK,

I've brought a Vodafone Mobile Broadband Dongle, the K3570-Z to be precise. When I insert it into the USB port, it doesn't do anything, but Windows recognises a dongle has been inserted.

I manually open the installation program, allow it to open, then it goes through the installation. After a while though the installation window just disappears, and I have two icons on my desltop, the SMS one and the Vodafone Mobile Broadband one. I assume its finished, so I click on the Vodafone Mobile Broadband Icon, and all it tells me is ''Do you wish to cancel the stup, yes or no' and clicking on no just has the message repeat itself over and over again, and Yes seemingly uninstalls it, only to tell me its been unable to close all programs and these will be uninstalled after a reboot.

I've even tried downloading a different version of the software, (which on the dongle says its 10.1) The earlier software seems to install properly (it actually asks me if I want a custom one or standard install, if I agree to the terms, etc etc, which the one on the dongle doesn't do) but even after it says 'Installation Complete' when I click on Vodafone Mobile Broadband it gives me the exact same message.

What seems to be the problem here?

My PC is 64 bit, dual core, 2gb, Windows Vista Home Premium, service pack 2.

Thanks.

Hi knonfoda

Welcome to the eforum

It sounds like a software conflict on your OS maybe causing this issue.

Can you attach your ms32info so we can have a look into this.

System Configuration Logs:

  • Go to Start Menu
  • Type msinfo32 in the search bar and hit return to open the System Configuration Utility
  • Select File and Export- Enter a file name and save the file

 Thanks

Hi Knonfoda

I’ve got a reply back concerning your issue.:smileyvery-happy:

Some further information is required to analysis this, as this seems to be quite a unique issue.

Can you supply a screen shot of the screens offering to cancel setup etc?

If you can also right click on the Vodafone Icon on your desktop and select properties and then supply a screenshot of the information on this screen as well, as this would be useful to establish what exactly the shortcut is pointing at.

From the logs it looks like the both the software and the device drivers have all installed, so this seems to point at something having problems actually running the desktop shortcut or the actual mobilebroadband.exe is encountering problems somewhere.

When the software is installed, does it show in Control Panel, Programs and features?

As a workaround, and given the device components all appear ok, I suggest trying a DUN (Dial Up Network) connection just to see if it works. This would also allow you to use the dongle until this issue with VMC is fully resolved.

Creating a Manual Dial Up Networking Connection on Windows Vista:

In order to set up a manual dial up networking connection, first enter the initialisation command in the modem properties. This specifies the Access Point Name (APN) the device is going to connect to:

  1. Go to Control Panel and select System (visible when viewing in Classic View) and then Device Manager from the left hand menu
  2. Expand the Modems heading and go into properties for the Vodafone Mobile Broadband modem
  3. Go to the Advanced tab
  4. Enter the initialisation command as AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”ppbundle.internet”
  5. Click apply and ok

Once done create a new dial up networking connection as follows:

  1. Start Menu / Control Panel / Network and Sharing Center / Set up a connection or network
  2. Choose “Connect to the Internet”
  3. Ensure ”No, create a new connection” is selected and click Next
  4. Click on ”Dial-Up”
  5. Select  the Vodafone Modem  (if there are no other modems installed on the system you will not see this option).
  6. Enter the Phone number:  *99***1#
  7. Username & Password = web & web
  8. “Connection Name” = a name of your choosing.
  9. Click “Connect” to complete and test the connection. Note: Please ensure Vodafone Mobile Connect/Vodafone Mobile Broadband is not running before attempting the connection.

I look forward to receiving this further information from you.

I am trying to install this dongle on a Dell desktop running XP SP3 for my father and am having very similar issues. Installation actually set up the dialup 'fix' and worked initially but now gives error messages. Please help.

Hi 50bellevue,

Firstly, a very warm welcome to the eForum :).

So that I can assist you further, can you please provide a little more detail around exactly what happens here? Which error messages are you seeing when you try to connect?

In regards to the installation, please try the following steps to resolve this:

  • Firstly, ensure that all windows are closed and that the modem is the only device plugged into a USB port
  • Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs
  • Uninstall any reference to VMC/Vodafone Mobile Connect
  • Go back to the Control Panel and open up Network Connections
  • Delete any Vodafone connections
  • Go back to the Control Panel and open up System
  • Click the Hardware tab and then open Device Manager
  • Expand Modems, Ports and DVD/CD ROM and then right click and uninstall any reference to Vodafone/ZTE
  • Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers and right click and uninstall any Mass Storage or Composite devices
  • Unplug the modem, wait 10 seconds and then plus back in. If all goes well then it should install everything correctly

The reason for doing the above is to ensure that you're starting again from afresh. The reason for the issue installing the first place could have been down to the modem seeing a universal mass storage device already in place and so not going any further with the installation. By removing that and trying again, the issue may be resolved.

Give that a go and let me know how you get on. If you still experience issues then please answer the questions I've asked above.

Kind Regards,

George.

Thank you for your reply. I followed your instructions, deleting all trace of the modem, but when I tried to reinstall the same error occurred as previously (I performed this exercise twice but the same result each time).

In answer to your question, it appears to complete the install process up to the "Searching for network" window but shortly after "Cancel setup process" appears with a yes or no option. If "no" is selected this window just reappears. On selecting "yes" the process appears to stop without connecting to a network.

Hi 50bellevue,

I must admit that this is a strange one however, can you confirm when you last used the dongle?

Also are you able to try the dongle on a different PC

Do you get the same issue?

If you put the SIM into a handset are you able to find a network connection?

If you can let me know I will be able to advise you further.
