Vodafone Mobile Broadband - Getting Ras 678 Error & Problem Sending Email Attachments

Hi,

I'm a new Vodafone dongle user.

I live in GU26 6EY and as such can only access a GPRS network which is amazingly slow - probably not much faster than dial-up speed and is totally unusable for surfing the net.

Notwithstanding all this, I have two (probably unrelated problems). One is the RAS678 problem whic occurs intermittently but generally every evening. Once it occurs then even rebooting doesn't seem to have any lasting effect.

Is there an answer to this problem? (I'm running XP Pro SP3)

The second problem occurs when sending emails with attachments. Anything over about 100k fails to send even though the connection is still in place. This problem also occurs when connected to a 3G network.

Is there a known solution to this problem?

All in all, I am pretty unimpressed with the product so far.

Hi Wellsm

I have checked your post code for you and it shows as you can only get outdoor signal in your area so this means you will be able to connect but it will never get faster than you currently get and you have no 3G in your area at all so 3G is not an option.

In regards to the email attachments the reason these are failing is because the connection is slow so it times out before the email gets uploaded and sent.

Did you have your postcode checked before you purchased this product?

How long have you had the USB dongle for? The reason I ask this is you do get a 7 day cooling of period so you can test your satisfaction of the product we supply, if in these 7 days you are not happy we offer a full refund and cancel the current agreement for you.

I understand this is not the news you wanted to hear and I wish I could supply better news but from the postcode I have checked this is not possible :(

Thanks

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for the response.

You're right, it's not what I wanted to hear. No, there was no suggestion of checking that the service was available prior to purchase.

Sadly, I have had the Dongle for 12 days so am unable to take it back even though, in reality it's completely unusable.

Not good for Vodafone's image really. Although I did have a follow up call trying to sell me a phone!! but not asking me whether I was happy with the Dongle.
