Hi guys have what is getting to be a very annoying problem with my internet when i am surfing the net my connection keeps going off-line and offering the dial up box to connect or retry but according to the vmc i am connected? i have been in touch with microsoft and they say it is because of an unreliable connection speed (using a 21meg dongle!!!)and it is timing out all the time this is getting annoying to say the least and also after about an hour or so the dongle is icreasingly starting to diconnect itself (very annoying when downloading fles from work) so i have to start again and use yet more of my allowance to get things i need (no wonder i used 8gb+ last month) very expensive at £15 a gig after my allowance used this happens on both my dongles anything i can do to remedy this? plus when i get the dial-up box and tell it to connect it won't
if you can help with a problem great do it. If your just here to ###### people off then sod off!!

Hi gaz23g,

Shame to read this :(

Can you tell us what type of coverage you get, and how stable it is? You can even tell this from looking at the modem itself: turquoise indicates HSDPA (or, 3G+). blue is 3G, and green means 2G. A flashing double-green light means no coverage. If Microsoft are right, then what should be happening is that you only connect at 2G (about the same speed as a dial-up 56k modem), which falters and drops to no service (double flash green light). Popping the SIM into a mobile should reveal 1-0 bars of connection in the same location. If the above is true and similar to what you're suffering, the issue will be a local network one and coverage.

However, if the modem connects fine and zips along just fine before this error comes up, and the modem does not display a double flashing green indicator LED, then the fault will either be a strange network fault (that won't occur elsewhere, in other postcode locations), or (more likely) something your computer is doing is causing a disconnect. This could be even down to a misconfiguration of the modem's drivers.

We really need more detail as to what's going on - how the modem works in another computer and how the SIM works in a mobile, for example.

Let us know - I'm confident we'll get to the bottom of this! :)

Hi gaz23g

I can appreciate your frustration over this issue.

The only thing I can suggest to do would be to try the booster cable that came supplied with the modem to see if this stabilizes the connection at all?

What postcode areas are you having trouble in?

Thanks

Hi Benj thanks for the reply have tried it with the wire and in different spots of the house but still happening? i live in the AB11 area and as far as i know there's no probs with the connection gonna try a complete reset of my comp see if that does anything though i can't see that it will due to it does the same on my other comp as well, what i intend to try is to use it before i put any work related software etc on the comp and see if that does it just to make sure there's no conflict anywhere so here's hoping
