Vodafone Mobile Broadband - Vodafone VTP is not Windows 7 compatible

Dundy
Not applicable
Dear All,

I've spent two days trying to set up Vodafone Mobile Broadband via the Phone (VTP) on my Windows 7 x64 but it's for sure now that it's not Windows 7 compatible.

Works fine on my other computer using Windows XP. I have tried setting of VTP executable in WinXP and Vista compatible modes, I have tried running them as administrator but nothing helps.

VTP starts, detects my BlackBerry 9500, shows 3G coverage + level or reception but when I click on connect, then it tells me that Vodafone Connector Service is not running and tells me the reboot. Of course, I can see that Vodafone Connector Service IS running.

It's a big shame as Windows 7 is very quickly becoming as popular as Windows XP and will be probably more widely used than any other Windows versions.

Does anyone know when Vodafone plans to update this software and make it Windows 7 compatible?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Dundy.

What version of the BlackBerry Desktop manager are you using?

My device specialist suspects that this may be the problem because VTP should use a standard modem and your logs show that on your PC it isn't.

We need you to enable and supply the VTP log for us to help.

To do this you need to create a registry key into the windows registry

  • "use_logging"=dword:00000001
One this is done you should find a Vpclog.txt file, located USERS\$Name$\Documents\

If you could supply that we can follow on :)

thanks

Hello again,

I am using Desktop Manager 5.0.1.37 - the most recent one I believe. And I cannot install a standard 33600 bps modem. When I try to add that through Control Panel / Phone and Modem, I select Standard 33600 bps modem, then next. Here I am not given any options to set the PORT I want it to use, etc, it just pops up Standard 33600 bps modem in the Device Manager with a yellow exclamation mark next to it. When I try to modify it's details, it tells me the resources of this device doesn't need to be set.

I have tried to add the above registry entry, but after rebooting, trying to reconnect with VTP, the log file isn't generated in my Documents folder. Sending a screenshot of the registry, let me know what I need to change to generate the log.

What filename should I be looking for by the way? I'll do a search in case it got placed somewhere else?

Thanks!

Hi Dundy.

From the screen shot you have supplied we cannot see where the key has been added

you can add it by:

  • Right clicking on the right hand pane in regedit.
  • Select New then DWORD.
  • Call it use_logging.
  • Right click and select modify on it and enter the value as 00000001.

at this stage we really could do with seeing your account as the VTP software appears to be set to use Vodafone Hungary if your using a Vodafone UK SIM then we need to change these settings to UK settings.

the file is called Vpclog.txt My device specialist has just double checked the path location, it may be in

c:\ProgramData\Vodafone\Via the Phone

If you could reply back to my email I can take this further for you.

Thanks

Hi Ben,

I guess I didn't do the registry editing properly the previous time. Now VTP has generated the attached log file.

As for my account, I have a Vodafone Hungary SIM and I am not using Vodafone UK. Sorry if this wasn't clear until now. I have turned to the customer service of Vodafone Hungary but they told me they can only provide support for those programs, which can be downloaded from vodafone.hu - and that website only has an older version of VTP available for download, which doesn't support BlackBerries. This is why I turned to Vodafone UK, to you for help. And I am very happy I did so, as you guys have doing an impressive job trying to resolve my problem.

I will reply to that e-mail received from you from my gmail account, since that is my main e-mail address, will change that in the forum settings as well soon.

Have a nice day,
Dundy

Dear Daz/Ben/Jon,

Does the above log file tell you anything about what the source of the problem with VTP not seeing VodafoneConnectorService running in the background?

Thanks,
Dundy

Hello Dundy, I had the same issue and finally somehow it got fixed. First check if the com ports appear in the device manager.
