Vodafone Mobile Connect. Driver Issue

Hi.
I'm installing Vodafone Mobile COnnect 9.3.6 on WindowsXP SP2 with admin rights.
I use a USB Modem Stick Model : K3565.

When I first plug in the Usb stick it detects a CD ROM and a lot of devices are left unrecognised. Then when I launch the application VOdafoneMB the devices are automatically recognised and the all the driver installs by itself... all but one.

I still have an Unknow Device called ZTE CDMA TEchnologies MSM. The device assistant searcher pops out to help out but it cannot find the driver.

If I pull out the usb stick and plug it back in, then I don't have the unknown device anymore, the driver seems to install on the second try.
It seems the missing name is a port driver called ZTE VoUSB Device (COM10).
If I tried using the software and making a connection, everything works fine.

The only drawback in all that is that the second time I plug my usb stick, all driver names : ZTE Proprietary USB Modem and ZTE Wireless Ethernet Adpater are marked with a #2.
Likewise the other port numbers under the com devices have all increased...

Is there a reason for that and can I avoid it ?

Sure at the end the applications seem to work, but as I'm going to deploy it on lot's of computer I would like to avoid this behaviour has much as possible.

Thanks for your help.

Alain

Hi Alain,

While I can honestly say I have no idea why there's the unknown device issue, I am happy to be able to explain why you're getting devices marked #2.

Windows is only intelligent enough to recognise that a device you have previously used is being plugged in, when you always plug it into the same USB port. If at any point you plug it into a different port, it sees it as a completely new device and puts a #2 next to it.

So, in short, so long as everything is working normally, the only thing you need to do to stop it installing several copies of the same device, is to always use the same port :D

I trust that helps.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for your answer. Meanwhile I'm aware of that state of fact that you are describing. That's why I'm a bit concerned because I indeed always plug the usb stick in the same port...
We also use Vodafone E172 sticks and I don't recall having that kind of problem. (I used VMC 9.3.3 though for that one)
I'll try that one on VMC 9.3.6 see what happens...

I only hope not to run is more issues if i decide to deploy 9.3.6 with the K3565

Cheers

Alain
