Vodafone Mobile Connect (VMC) - My \Log Folder Is Filling Up With Log Files

Hi

My first post here and one that I've searched for an answer for in the forums but with no luck.

I've noticed that since I set up a new laptop with version 10 of the VMC software (I'm in Ireland) the \Log file has been steadily growing even though I've not actually used the software yet. Each day there are the following files created:

*MobileBroadband.txt
*Diagnostics.txt
*iftrace.txt

These are all in: Application Data\Vodafone\Vodafone Mobile Broadband\Log

If the folder continues to grow - it got to over 300Mb in just three weeks - then it can start to eat up disk space quite quickly.

I've deleted all but the ones from today and it's had no detrimental effect on the software but I wonder if anyone can advise why this logging is taking place and if it's possible to turn it off.

Thanks

Hi ggosling,

I'm not sure how to disable the logging myself, but will pass your query over to our Mobile Broadband specialist for an answer :)

Hi again :)

Here's the word back from our mobile broadband specialist:

The logging level can be ammended (and turned off altogether) using the attached document.

The reason for logging is for diagnostics purposes, and if there are any issues the logging files can be used to diagnose and resolve issues. The reason that logging is ongoing even when the device is not in use is that the software is monitoring for such things as device connections and relevant service changes which can also prove useful when troubleshooting issues.

Please download the document and follow the instructions to alter your logging level :)

Was this issue resolved?

I am having the same issue with huge files being produced in the log folder (megabytes on a daily basis). The the solution doesn’t appear as straightforward as the attachment suggests. When trying to open the MobileBroadband.exe.config file I am being asked what program I want to use. If I open in Notepad and try to make and save the changes suggested by Vodafone I get the following message:
“Cannot create the C:\Program Files\Vodafone\Vodafone Mobile Broadband\Bin\MobileBroadband.exe.config file. Make sure the path and file name are correct”
If I click ok to this message I get the opportunity of saving the file as a .txt file which I assume would not be correct. The file properties indicate that it opens with “Windows Shell Common Dll” but to my knowledge I do not have this functionality.
Can you please assist by confirming what I need to do to make the changes suggested.

Hi MStevens

I am using version 10.2 and can confirm this issue doesn't appear to happen in the latest version. I would suggest downloading the latest version from here.

Thanks

Hi Jon

Thanks. Downloaded that and will report back if there's any issue.

Impressed with the quick response.
