Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 - Unresponsive Touch Screen means I loose all my data :(

loved my SU 6 until screen became unresponsive about the edges. I can no longer access my phone.. phone works just cant unlock it

So i try and get it fixed but Vodafone MUST clear all my data for data protection purposes. My problem is I need sentimental data and pictures off it and I cant access it though PC or SD card as locked.

I've pleaded with VODAFONE instore, online, telecom teams...but to no avail...

I've bought screen from china to get repaired myself by a mobile technician but as its not a common phone they fix im worried too about them..

This has been a 5 week nightmare....any ideas???? greatly appreciated

Hi

Firstly it's not a good move to affect a repair yourself. Any work carried out via yourself or an unauthorised engineer would invalidate any warranty.

I suggest always using the manufacturer. Vodafone apply a 24 month warranty but does not cover issues caused by a drop or water damage.

It may not even be the screen.

It maybe software.

I assume turning it off and on does not help and your on the most recent firmware update. And you have no case or screen shield applied.

I appreciate your worries over your information. I assume you've not backed up to anywhere?

A factory reset would delete the stored information I'm afraid which is performed by the settings.

Another option is a Hard reset which is performed by button pressess and this with more than likely also delete data. vodafone-smart-ultra-6-hard-reset.

thanks grand master.... :Smiling:

but i dont really have any other options. Im tired trying to get this fixed,

A manager could surely put his hand up and say 'ILL SORT THIS'

i do understand that my warranty will be voided....

spent 2 hours on live chat today. Visited 5 stores already. Its a Vodafone product. surely they could fix my screen **make exception** given the situation im in.

such a cracking phone the SU6.. ill be sure to backup everything for the rest of my life after this...

just sooooo frustrating that I cant get it fixed....I've no problem paying....

maybe someone from vodafone will see this and contact me....

wonder would making a complaint under 'complaints' n stuff help.... lol

PS im getting desperate I know.

its definitely a screen problem...was going for few days before hand...centre works...just cant log into phone as locked with code.

Any standard-service repair will only deal with the specific issue and will almost certainly wipe the contents of the phone.  If you want an element of data recovery, youi'll need to go to a specialist and pay whatever they charge (which will depend on the complexity of the task).

I'm afraid the hard answer is that the security of your data is your responsibility - this means not relying on keeping it in one place as electronic devices can and do fail.  There's actually a thing called Schofield's Law which states that data doesn't exist at all unless it exists in at least three places.

There are (free) online services that will sync pictures automatically (eg Dropbox and Google Drive/Photos) and you can copy other stuff there manually as well.   I'd use two of these just to cover the possibility of one of them going down, but also look at copying to a PC or other local physical storage.

If you have content on an SD card, you should be able to remove it and read it in another device, so you may not have lost everything.

Sorry not to be the bearer of better news, but that's how it is.
