Hi DonkeyDave,
Many thanks for your reply. I've managed to get the 2820 into modem mode - very easy just ticked the pass through box! I can see the VSS in the router tables but still getting the flashing leds but for the life of me I cannot find any details on how to do a factory reset. I've seen something that says hold the reset button for 10 seconds but that seems to turn it off and something else that says hold the reset for 30 seconds which causes it to go through the initialisation sequence buts ends up with the flashing off orange orange sequence. Before I changed the 2820 I plugged the VSS into the router but no change to the leds - maybe I didn't leave it long enough. Guess I leave the current setup for a few hours and see what happens.
Regards,
Phil

I don't have a 2820 - but you could try setting things up like I did in my earlier post. i.e. set up the 2820 as a standard ADSL router (not a pass-through modem) and have your EA6900 set up behind it on a separate network. Do you understand how that would work or do you want me to try and talk you through it? If you are unsure it would be useful if you could tell me which of the points I outline in my post from last November you are struggling with / don't understand.

Hi DonkeyDave,
Leave it with me for a couple of hours, I'll have another read of your earlier post, read the manual and see if I can change the 2820.
Will get back later
MAny thanks for your help

Hi,
Nearly got it status leds of VSS changed - apparently can't access the router so I've probably got the IP addresses wrong in the 2820, also couldn't get onto the net so obviously got something wrong with the router config. Ah well tomorrow's another day so will have another read.

Well as I said, if you need me to try and explain anything you don't understand, just post on here and I will do my best.

A couple of things immediately spring to mind - the MTU seems to be limited to a maximum of 1492 on the modems & routers, and how do I give the VSS a static IP address?

MTU is actually hard limited on my cheapo router (which I use as the modem bridge) at 1492 too, so it *may* not be a problem for you. It isn't for me. Assigning static ip addresses is normally done in the "LAN" or perhaps "DHCP" section of your router. As the 2820 is a pretty heavy-duy router I would expect it to be able to do this.

Yeah!! Bingo it has worked!!
Very many thanks to DonkeyDave for his great solution and for all the help he gave me. Didn't take me long this morning once I'd worked out what to do and where I had gone wrong last night, the VCC has just gone live so 3g back in the house now.
Thanks again
Regards,
Phil
