Hi There,

I have a Vodafone Sure Signal v2 that seems to be stuck with a steady power light and flashing system light. The light has been flashing for over 2 hours and will not stop. The phone light is off. Could you please advise if I have a faulty device?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi maccas99,

Hmmmm, I thought the whitelist would have sorted this.

Changing the cable sometimes fixes this but that's only if it's faulty.

If possible, could you try the VSS on another broadband connection such as a friend, relative or neighbour's house? This'll help us understand if it's a VSS or set-up issue.

Cheers,

LeeH

Hi, I've just tried the VSS2 in a neighbours house using their broadband connection and it exhibits the same behaviour, both lights flash for about 10 minutes then they go off and nothing happens.

Please advise on next steps?

Thanks

Cormac

Hi there maccas99,

If it's the same and the VSS is less than 2 years old you can send it off for a repair.

Thanks,

LeeH

Update -

I tried my VSS2 on another neighbours BB connection and it worked as they were with a different provider. Then, without prompting, I got an email from my provider asking me to try the VSS2 again on my BB connection as they have "taken some action overnight".

I've tried it today and it worked almost instantly. This is obviously great news and I am pleased that I am now able to use my phone again. However, after speaking to the ISP it appears that the action overnight was a reboot of their equipment which does seem odd and doesn't identify the route cause.

Lets hope it continues to work after my ISP carry out some "planned maintenance" on the 14th! 🙂

Sure Signal stopped working a few days ago.

Tried all the troubleshooting I can, checked cables, rebooted SS and router.

Red power light is on and then the first white light is flashing. Second light was flashing too but then stopped when I rebooted the router.

Is it just my abysmally slow connection speeds? But Sure Signal was working previously with equally slow speeds.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Hi vrai,

Your traceroute is fine although your upload speed is borderline, it should be at least 0.33Mbps.

I've done a resync for you, please do a reset to complete the process;

-Hold in the reset button until all lights go solid

-Pull the power lead out with the reset button still pushed in

-Continue to hold down the reset button and reconnect the power lead

-Wait for all lights to come on and then release the reset button

Thanks,

Kay

Hi,

My SureSignal is v2... not new, been working for a few years.  But as of yesterday it's no longer working... steady power light, blinking system light.

I've done the tracet and the results are...

On the back the router amber light is steady and the green light is blinking rapidly so I think the unit is happily talking to my LAN.

Help!

Hi sturczyn,

I can see from the registration that it’s not connected with the server since yesterday and your traceroute doesn’t seem to be hitting our server.

Who is your internet provider?

Do you know if they’ve done an update yesterday that would block the Sure Signal from connecting?

I would try deregistering the Sure Signal, rebooting the router and then registering the Sure Signal again after one hour.

This should then set everything back up with your router, but it can take up to 24 hours.

James

Thanks for your reply, James.

My ISP is called "Village Networks" and they provide broadband via line-of-sight radio to villages in Buckinghamshire... http://173.254.28.86/~villagf5/index.html

I'm not aware if they've done any updates... I would have to ask them tomorrow now.

I did have a problem back in April of 2012 where I had to get my ip address whitelisted by Vodafone.  The ip address is unchanged so should still be whitelisted... 91.226.206.99

If the traceroute isn't hitting your server, I'm not clear why de-registering and re-registering the Sure Signal would fix that?  However, I'll try anything.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve,

The IP range is still on the whitelist so it should be ok.

However, the sure signal is designed to work on a fixed line broadband service and as this is a community broadband, it could cause some problems.

Can you run a speed and ping test for me?

James
