I was given a Vodaphone Platinum 7 as a present but am on 3. Can I use non Vodafone SIM card? Thanks.

No it'll be most probably locked to Vodafone uk if the original owner hadn't had it unlocked.
Test it by inserting your SIM card. If it asks for a code thrn it's still locked to Vodafone uk.

The main thing is that what you want to do can be done, but there will be a smallish cost to you.
