Vodafone has got to be the worst phone company ever. I will be going back to EE. I have had my phone capped and they still say I have went over my data this happens every month and this time it was apparently £156 over, I have wifi in the house no chance I spent that. I gave them options to pay it up a month to what I could afford they just don't care and staff are not willingly wanting to help. Worst staff team ever !!!! They don't listen to what you have got to say and think your lying when I say my phone had been capped. There using the excuse it was capped after I spent the data . ABOSOLUTE RUBBISH! safe to say I will be leaving Vodafone and they can stick there £200 phone bill it's no gettin paid

Personally I self monitor my data usage via the network app and internal data monitor of my phone @Ewalker93xx
Please let the Vodafone Support Team here catch up with your post and I'm sure that they will help you with this situation if they can.
I would strongly suggest not to intentionally stop payments as it's easier to get a refund than get a default removed from your credit file. If you stop payments then your automatically in the wrong.
Getting any type of mortgage , finance or passing for another mobile contract would be hard to say the least. It's of course your choice.
Vodafone can offer a payment plan but that is invariably recorded on your Credit File.
Or agree to a Promise To Pay which is set up typically for 6 months that lets you pay off the using amount in instalments. Restrictions to services may be applied.

Vodafone do offer a network level capping option, it's not that easy to find but is available via the Vodafone app. It is available via the website also but, in my case, only after activating it via the app was it available on the website.
Self monitoring is all well and good except every method you can self monitor with provided by Vodafone is not real time monitoring and potentially out of date, by days. Phone internal data monitors are more accurate, but you don't get billed via your phone data monitor.
The only way to guarantee you don't go over your data allowance is to activate the data cap. Personally I think it should be on by default but at least they now offer you the ability to cap your data usage.
I can't remember exactly when they started offering it but it's been available for at least twelve months.
As long as you took out a deal after they started offering the ability to cap then you can use it and guarantee yourself that you won't go over on your data allowance, unless you choose to do so of course.
