What is auto sync and how do I reset it?

Hello,

When I try to update my emails, my LG3 keeps saying that 'Auto sync is turned off. Update emails manually'. I haven't the tiniest iota of an idea what all that means and if anyone can help me I'll promise not to curse my phone again for at least a day.

Hi

Auto sync pushes your emails from your email server to your phone when they become available.

Update mail manually means until you start that process new emails won't update onto your phone for you to read.

Hi there

That simply means you have disabled the automatic download / synchronisation of your emails.  In order to download your emails you will have to update manually.

Now, what email app are you using?  We may be able to help you set up the automatic synchronisation.

Thanks a lot: I calmed down and found the menu for 'accounts and sync' just now. Touching 'sync' seems to have worked. I hope it stays pn; it seems incredibly sensitive! No idea how it was switched off except that my inbox was full for a few days.

Thank you: I think it must have happened because my inbox was full for a dew days.

If auto sync fails (as it would if the mailbox is full), it sometimes produces spurious messages.   There should be a tick-box beside the service and as long as it's checked, it should work as intended.

Thanks so much. It's working now. Such a sophisticated piece of equipment that I barely understand.

There are various basic guides to mobile phones.   Newsagents and supermarkets tend to have them - look with the magazines.  The thing, though, is not to try to learn everything at once, just look up what you need to know.

My wife wrote a piece for the forum on Smartphones for the Novice and, helping her, I realised what a steep learning curve it is (practically vertical).

You can also ask questions here and there'll be someone who can help you.

It's really great to have this support. I often feel like a complete prat in this field.
