What is the point of pre order ?

On Friday 15/09/2017 at just after 8am, I preordered the Iphone 8 256gb, I then ordered a new ipad pro. The chap I spoke to said that I was the first person who had ordered a new Iphone with him and that delivery would be 22/09/2017 the conversation was complete by 8.25 am and an email confirmation sent at 8.35 am.

I revieved am email last night telling me that I'm on the waiting list ?? 

I was led to expect my new phone today 22/09/2017, Vodafone say there is a first come first served priorty for preorders, so how many phones were Vodafone allocated for launch day, as unless Vodafone call centres have tens of thousands of staff, who all put  Iphone 8 preorders through pre 8.20 am, I can't see why I'm now on a waiting list.

So back to my original question, what is the point of pre order?

I don't mind waiting, if i'm informed from the start. As a customer, I would expect to be told the situation at time of order, not basically, be lied to, how many handsets were available for launch day? I can only infer it was a pitiable amount if it was sold out by 8.20am on preorder day. So yes I'm very frustrated but with the way vodafone are dealing with it, sending out emails saying you're on a waiting list and also saying don't contact customer services because they don't know any more. More like don't contact customer services, because they know we're going to be complaining about being misled by them.

So back to my old mantra, What was the point of preordering only to be put on a waiting list.

I have just had a conversation with customer service and i was told might be on the delivery today or it might be next week 

If it isnt dispatched today i will cancel the order tomorrow as  i have found one for delivery Thursday and is £12 cheaper a month and thats on a Vodafone contract ......

online order tracker has now been updated to expected delivery date of 30th of September not sure if anyone else has had the same? Just thought I’d share

Yes, Ive just seen that estimate. Saturday delivery, no chance.

Seeing they only have delivery’s on Tuesday and Thursday it’s just another blatant LIE

Just had an email from Vodafone DPD has your package and will deliver 29th September also just had a text with my new phone number come through anyone else had this yet?

Well this morning, I've had notification that my phone will arrive today. It would be interesting to know why we've had to wait when the phone was ordered so early on pre order day, I wonder if was it an issue with the 256GB model?

Must be an issue with 256gb mine was supposed to be delivered tomorrow but they’ve tried to deliver just now and unfortunately I’m not there to sign for it so looks like I’m getting it tomorrow after all
