What package do I need?

I hope people can suggest how I can fit my needs to a mobile broadband package.

I really can't get my head round any of the mobile companies’ websites – all seem to think potential customers are more interested in the colour of a dongle than the costs and specification of their service...

Okay, moan over. Here’s what I need:

About 6 times a year - no more often than once a month, I need to stream live BBC1 content from the BBC sport website (at 256kbs according to the BBC) for 90-120 minutes.

I will be indoors at a location without wi-fi, good enough Freeview signal or a TV aerial. Vodafone is the only company to claim to offer good mobile broadband reception there.

Also, I understand that some people have had problems streaming BBC UK-only content with mobile broadband packages as the BBC cannot verify the user is in the UK.

What is the cheapest way I can guarantee do this, if at all?

I don’t care what the dongle looks like 😉

And if anyone has a clever idea that does the job without needing mobile broadband, that would be cool too.

Many thanks!

Hi woodcote

I can understand how you feel, it can be quite confusing :S.
From what you have mentioned I would say TopUp and Go mobile broadband as your not tied into a contract.

If your concerned about cover why not have a check yourself with our Coverage Checker :) .

I'm sure our members will be happy to give you suggestions. If you need further assistance from me, just let me know :) .

Thanks

So that's £15 a month for 90-120 minutes usage. Is the streaming at 256kbs for 90-120 minutes going to take me over any limit and what is the penalty charge for that?

That's the sort of info that would be handy.

Thanks

Hi woodcote

Thanks for your post here.

With the Pay as you talk USB modems you topup whenever you want to so this would not be a monthly charge unless you topped up monthly. With the PAYT modems you get 3GB worth of data (60 day expiry) so it will not take you over your limit as 120 minutes streaming at 256kbs will use around 200 MB of data. Also, the 3GB is not a limit you can get charged for if you go over. When you reach your 3GB allowance the connection will stop and you will need to topup again to resume.

Please let me know if you have any more questions and we'll be more than happy to help you further

Thanks

Wayne
