Hi

I have a vodafone dongal k3565 have new laptop with windows 7, I have tried to install the VMC LITE 9.3.5.11690 it and it keeps coming up with square box with red X "This installation package could not be opened. verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package.".

I have done all the updates that have come up on my laptop.. tried a few different ways of doing it downloaded the updated software off vodafone website but this still doesnt seem to work. i have checked my windows installer it says its for msi.. I have managed to install a Three network dongal on my laptop with no problems at all.

Hi stacey_w28

It sounds like your running a very old version of VMC the latest available for your dongle would be 9.4.6.

I seriously recommend you use this version as 9.3.5 wont support windows 7.

Also I suspect the copy you are using is corrupt by the nature of the error message.

Let me know how you get on

Thanks

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

I have got rid of that version now and restarted the laptop and tried the new one, downloaded it but it comes up with exactly the same error.

Hi stacey_w28

Unfortunatly I suspected that you would have further problems. From the screen shot you have provided I suspect there is an internal problem with the "Windows Installer".

I have come across this error message numerous times, unfortunately the fix for it is quite complicated so I would suggest seeking some advice from a trained PC operative.

However if you would like to investigate this yourself this link is quite useful.

Thanks

I have the latest version and still no luck, i've asked on a computer tech forum and they are saying that this vodafone software is not compatible with windows 7, what can i do as i will end up loosing my dongle if its not used within the 90day slot. I have been told that there is another dongle that has been released the R version or somthing that will work on windows 7

Thanks stacey

I have VMC 9.4.4.17702 which is newer than the one youre installing from the dongle (but older than the one the mod posted) and its working fine on Windows 7 for me, so it must be a system issue on your end and nothing to do with the dongle itself.

Make sure you have run Windows Update and installed all of the updates available for your machine. Also make sure its not being blocked by your antivirus application.

do a complete destructive reset of your system (make sure you back up any files you want to keep you'll lose them otherwise) then install the above 9.4.6 before you run any windows updates this will work and save you the cost of a tech doing exactly the same thing anyway.
if you can help with a problem great do it. If your just here to ###### people off then sod off!!

I have 2 laptops, one with Vista, and another with 64 bit windows 7. Vista one is spot on and runs with VMC no problem, but I gave up on the 7 one, as I think it's just not compatible with a 64 bit version. I did a bit of trawling and found this, which seems to be a new VMC version 10 that has 7 support.

It does say it will not work with UK though, but i can't see what fundemental difference there would be between UK and rest of europe. My dongle and phones all work in Europe. I might try and see if it'll work, but has anyone tried it yet?
