I have been on numerous threads and have changed all my settings trying to help the battery life as stipulated on numerous threads. Its made no difference at all my battery with no wifi or gps on or anything is going down 1% every few mins the only thing i have not tried is a factory reset but i am scared to do this because won't i lose all my photos and settings and apps etc? Its rediculous that i should need to do this after an update ;0(

It isn't ridiculous as that's how Android works. If your photos, contacts and other important items are on the phone only you are asking for trouble. Photos get lost or break and you are in serious danger of losing your data. Android, Google and Samsung offer multiple ways of protecting that data so you should find out how to take advantage of them. If you need any help please let us know and the community will give you all of the help you need.

You should of had a Drop Box account free with the Phone. This is easy to set up with an email address. It will instantly back up Photos as soon as they are taken or you can set it to upload as soon as you connect to WiFi.

Also you can set up a Google+ account and that will sync Photos immediately too!

If you log into the Samsung Dive account, that will also save messages, wallpapers, Photo's, music etc...!

I would suggest you have a look at the above accounts, They take seconds to set up and give peace of mind!

There are various ways of backup up content (which you should, if it's important, as has been advised already).  One of the simplest is Dropbox, Vodafone Cloud or Google Drive.   These all allow you to upload your files to online storage which can be syncd to a pc.  The first two have an auto sync option (best to tell it to do that only over wifi).  Google Drive, bizarrely, doesn't at the moment, though, as tsd says, it can be done through Google+.

You can also connect the phone by cable to a pc.  When the computer discovers it, choose the option to manage files, rather than any of the automatic ones.   Then use the pc file explorer to navigate to the locations you want on the phone and simply copy in the normal way.   Photos will be in a folder called either DCIM, Camera or Pictures.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the Info i transfered them over to my comp via the cable saved my contacts to sim and did a reset, I have to say it was really irritating and contrary to you all saying its not rediculous having to do a factory reset after every important update i find that so well rediculous, sorry.

We buy a phone set it up and use it and for most of us the thought of having to do a factory reset after every major update is a nightmare. You spend all this time getting your phone tweaked and working the way you want it too just to have to do that, i'm sorry its simply not on. I completely agree concerning backing up dating regularly if you know how to but to have to reset your phone back to nothing after an update well sorry i don't think thats acceptable at all.

I agree with you - but it is the way it is. One small price to pay for having the most advanced mobile operating system.

It's not essential to accept every update.  A lot of the changes are small and cosmetic and don't usually introduce and great security improvements.  I've never done one and wouldn't unless I needed a new feature or an app became incompatible with the version I had.

When backing up contacts, btw, it's better to do it to memory (external sd card if you have one) as this preserves the full address book structure.  Exporting to the SIM will only keep one number per entry with the 14 characters + number format.  You can copy the vcard file that results from the export to a pc or upload to Google Drive or other cloud storage.  It's good practice to do this on a regular basis just in case something happens to your online account.

I appreciate the point that you are making; But I take a different view on things...

I have been repairing Computers since 1997 and see many issues brought about by lack of maintenance.

Just as with Servicing a Car; Computers need to be serviced regularly as well.

One of the best ways to do this is to reformat the Hard Drive and re-install the Operating system. You can then install all the latest firmware and software updates and configure the PC in a more efficient mannner.

I take the same approach with Smart Phones. I regularly Format and reinstall the Firmware, especially after a Firmware Upgrade.

This forces you to save all your important stuff, it also refreshes the Phone which prevents a build up of orphaned files, which can help contribute to system conflicts and corruption.

It's very much "Good House Keeping" and in my opinion the best way to keep your device running at it's most optimised condition for the length of it's contract life.

There are so many "Cloud Solutions" to backup now that it is no longer the "pain" it used to be...

Samsung Dive will take care of most things and a SDcard will see to the rest!

You pay a lot of money for electronic devices, it makes sense to spend some time looking after them...!

You need to try and identify which app is using the battery. I use GSam Battery to see how the battery is being used.
