hi, my iphone 5s will only text specific people and some people it will not. roughly half of my contacts i can text, recieve textx, call, recieve calls and thats great but some contacts i cant text, i can call them, recieve texts from them but when i try to text them i always get the message nit delivered popup. i have tryed all sorts like messing around with imessage settings and nothing has worked. i was wondering if i can fix it myself, need to get my sim fixed or my phone fixed BUT my phone is less than a week old.

sorry for formatting on mobile

A couple of thing to check.

Firstly are the problem contacts actually using iMessage and if so is it switched on?

What happens if in Messages you have "Send as SMS when iMessage unavailable" turned on, do they receive your messages as a standard SMS?

well the ones not using iphone dont and the ones that do use iphone do and it makes no difference, and i have tryed the whole send as sms thing turning it on and off multiple times but it aopears if it has no affect on the problem im having.

It is a process of elimination.
Try rebooting the phone, hold the home and sleep buttons down until the Apple logo appears then release and let the phone restart. You will not lose any data and this often gets rid of glitches.
If that fails try signing out of iMessenger then back in again.

right so i was messing around with settings (imessage) and rebooting like u said and discovered that it appears to send texts when its formatted as a subject field (like it has a subject area that i can type in) i have not checkd with friends if they recieved it but this is very strange

Not sure what you mean by a subject field, there are only two fields in messages, the recipient details and the actual text, there is no separate subject field unless one has been added in the latest ios 8.1.

Can you take a screen shot of the screen when you compose a message and post it here? Someone may be able to see what is going on. Meanwhile it is good that you are now able to send messages.

Whether it was there before the latest version of iOS or not I can't say, but in 8.3 you can turn on a subject field in messages.

Thanks.

I never update the ios for at least 3 weeks, far to many bugs in updates. :smileyfrustrated:

yeh in imessage there is an option to change it to a subjec field

Hi @jowjowgnome

When you send texts without a subject field, do they deliver OK?

I'm wondering if this is more an Multimedia Message (MMS) issue than a text issue.

Thanks,

Ben
