Hi all
I am on my 2nd s4, The first was repaired 3 times due to dropping calls and then it was replaced with this refurbished handset.
It charges randomly. I hae used different chargers but always switches between charging and not charging.
I also get " dock connected " message on top bar. I dont have a dock and dont know what one is.
I have now restarted the handset and has restarted in factory mode with android man and message saying "downloading...do not turn off target"
Obviously this as new refurbished phone isnt as new.
Please help
Regards Darren

It sounds like either the Phone is downloading and installing an update? Should be obvious by the blue progress bar along the bottom of the screen. Or the Phone has just gone into download mode for some reason?
If the phone is updating just leave it to finish...
If it is simply in download mode (no progress bar showing) it will be safe to restart. Just press and hold the power button for 10 - 15 seconds to force a restart.
It wouldn't hurt to try a factory reset to see if that cures your problem, otherwise the phone will need to go for repair I'm afraid.

thanks soupdragon
there was no progress bar and done as you say. restarted ok now but still has recharging problem. Any idea on the "dock connected" message.
Might just get another battery with stand alone charger and swap batteries . Only a few months left before contract ends and leaving vodafone. Had too many problems with cs. Not here on forum though, always been helpful on here.

Hi Darren
Personally I suspect a hardware fault with the charging module but you wont know if it's firmware related unless you do a factory reset?
Take the battery out and place it on a very flat surface. Press down on one of the corners and see if the battery rocks (up & down). If it does it means the battery has swollen and could be the cause?
If not then its probably not battery but wouldn't hurt to buy a spare...
Sorry to hear you might be leaving, most problems can be sorted on this forum so no need to contact CS. 😉
