Businesses move with technology. 

Where have you seen that Samsung officially intends to go down this route @peter_carroll apart from the thread on the Samsung Gear s3 Frontier Watch we discussed earlier today.

I'm sure I seen it on techradar that gear s3 would be the first of many also said to be experimenting with implementing Bixby on its smart appliances i.e washers,tv' etc. but just rumours I think

I'm hoping that tech does not move to esim type devices. 

In the states some phone's had embedded sims which can cause issues sometimes when coming to sell it on for example. 

Just my thoughts.

Both Verizon and Sprint have esim phones, however most of them now have ability to use a SIM.

So can be used with SIM card when in other countries.

In USA the Samsung Gear S3 comes with esim Version. Not sure if it can on ly be used on Sprint or Verizon.

I agree with @BandOfBrothers.  The facility to switch a working SIM to another device is incredibly convenient in many circumstances.   It would be interesting to see what the market thinks when/if someone does eventually test the water with this.

With non-phone devices, it might work - watches are physically small and not having a card slot would be an advantage.  White goods tend to stay where they are and I'm not sure whether there are too many circumstances where you'd need/want to switch their identity with any speed.
