I have an already expensive android phone in the middle of a contract. My data allowance is 2gb per month. I have just asked the cosst of upgrading and was quoted £12.00 for an additional 4gb per month which I feel is extortionate. I have just looked at the website and see I can get unlimited texts and phone calls with 20gb data and all for just £20 per month. This seems much better value even ie £1 per gb as opposed to the £3 I was quoted and it includes calls and texts. Is there any way I could add something like this to an existing contract or is there any way of getting a better deal?

Hi,
Generally the nearer a person is to their upgrade date the better a deal can be.
From what I've read you can change around your allowances via a tariff change as long as your proposed change does not reduce the monthly payment you make.
Another expensive option would be to pay off your remaining contract and upgrade then.
There is always to the option to add more data too via http://www.vodafone.co.uk/explore/benefits/extras/index.htm

It's crazy. If I look at current new tarrifs, I can get unlimited phone calls, unlimited texts and 20Gb data and all for £20! ie 1gb for a £1.
Yet someone is trying to charge me an additionl £3 per 1gb on its own!
I don't understand it. It would appear the only answer would be to take out a full new sim only package and use it on an old phone that we have lying around It would seem pointless.

But you're not comparing like with like. You're comparing a SIM Only plan with a plan than includes a phone - they are 2 totally different things. Obviously, if you take a plan with a phone it is going to cost more.
The thing here is that the price you've signed up at is the minimum price for the duration of the contract's minimum term. You cannot reduce the monthly payment to below this level until you're out of the minimum commitment period.

Whilst you are in commitment with an expensive Android phone, your options are going to be limited.
If you have been quoted £12.00 for an additional 4GB data, with Vodafone charging £10.00 for an extra 2GB of data, you are already receiving a discount of the full price.
Please see below.
The other alternative is to negotiate a complete tariff change onto a different plan which includes more data. Although you have already contacted Vodafone, it may be worth discussing your tariff again and let them make some suggestions more suitable to your needs.
